  • Christian Children's Fund

I'm not making this thread to say these kids arn't in need.

I am watching American Choppers and this just came on the same channel right after. I'm sure you have all seen the commercials where the guy walks around the starving children asking for donations. It's great that they want to help and all, but I feel it's the wrong way to go about it. Like there prying on there misfortune to promote themselves. Would they also help raise money for cancer, aids, parkasins(sp) ect., as long as those people were willing to trade there history and belief system for christ. It looks like imperialism to me. I could be way off on this, but it's just how I see it.

I wouldn't donate one penny to ANY organization religiously based.

Ya I hate that fucking commercial. When they say, "maybe you put it on a todo list, marked it down on your calender but just forgot, well these children dont have to the stroke of never".

I fell like kicking the shit out of that guy every time he says that.

I've heard before that they don't even get the full amounts of money for food and everything. Those commercials make me sick.

The term I use for proselytising and evangelism (by any religion) is "cultural genocide."

Numerous indigenous cultures around the world have had unique beliefs and tenets, especially things like animism and coexisting wtih nature. Unfortunately, many of them are lost to us now because the people who practice them have either been eradicated through contact with the west or have been converted at some point to one of the major world religions, especially Christianity and Islam.

Regardless of the merits of Christianity or Islam, I think the world's cultural heritage is poorer now that these unique cultures are extinct.

I believe that this richness and diversity should be preserved - coming from an Eastern culture, I am especially sensitive to this.

Most of the religous groups/people that are over in other countries are quite rich and they have another purpose for being there. They are also in these coutnries to convert these people to Christianity. This is why they aren't spending their money here, it's easier to convert people in 3rd world countries.

Which will then lead to war between the missionaries, converted vs resented converted and the unwanting to convert.

The philanthropy is great. The proselytizing is the problem......

                        :ghey:

Help leads to health, health leads to procreation, procreation leads to more mouths to feed, more mouths to feed leads to spending more money and more death. It is a vicious cycle that no one can make better.

we can stop procreating, but what fun would that be. The world wouldn't be over populated and we wouldn't be handing out welfare like candy at a parade.
