  • Wanting to stop a Con (scammer) in Mass. (serious thread)

I'll just hit the high points here to get started. There is guy in Massachusetts who cons alot of kids in Poland on the idea of getting to come to the US for college. He is from Poland also. He came here some 20 years ago and is now a citizen. This would have happened to my girlfriend, but fortunatly she was good at basketball so it worked out. This guy will go to athlete kids and there families in Poland. Tell them for a certain amount of money he can get them into a good school to learn while on an athletic scholorship. The amount will start at $500. He says it's to pay for his plane ticket and dinners with the coaches for meetings, blah blah blah. My girlfriend has found out recently that he is still taking money and fasly promising kids a future. He also has offered kids room and board, but when they get to his house they sleep on the floor of a room and have to work to buy there own food. He plays on these kids fears of getting in trouble and/or getting deported. I don't know where to start to get to this guy and hopefully in the end, pay for the horrible things he does. I have his name and last known adress. I have a place of work he gave to my girlfriend, but it dosn't seem to exists.

How about reporting him to the FBI? Sounds like the guy is violating any number of racketeering, immigration and indentured servitude statutes.......

How do I go about reproting it to the FBI and it not just get filed in the large stack of investigations. Oh and I don't know if it matters, but the kids arn't here illegally, they have student visa's.

if you want it to be prioritized by the authorities, and placed at the top of the case list, you need to contact the media first. find a local tv newsstation, get in touch with one of the reporters, and lay it all out. give them something to pursue for ratings, and then the public will find out. and when the public finds out, the authorities will have to do something about it or else lose face.

most local news stations would LOVE to have an exclusive on something like that, and most reporters would take a story like that over any of the other bullshit public interest/beureacratic (sp?) stories they're used to being assigned to.

good luck, get on the horn and get this guy called out. if all goes well he'll be the one sleeping on the floor of his cell cause his 300 lb cellmate named bubba wants both beds after violating him.

bump for those that might know anything. This is really important to me. I also have a phone number and e-mail adress. If I was to contact the media, what all do you think I would need to get them interested.

Oh and to put the $500 in perspective, In Poland if a family were to save every dollar they make it would take 2+ months on average to make it. And another thing he did, was when my girlfriend got here already, she found out her previous school only gave her a scholorship for $31,000 and the cost was $34,000. The guy never mentioned any of this. So her parents had to do some incredably unselfish things to come up with the $3000 dollars for her to stay.

Does he ever get the kids a scholorship or no? Also, what happens once the kids have been at his house for awhile and they still havent gotten anything. Does he just send them back to poland or what?

I think hcln8 makes a good point. Nothing like a little adverse publicity to get the authorities interested. By the way, the FBI has field offices in most major cities.

Also, it may be worthwhile spreading the word in Poland that this guy is a scammer. If one can write to the sports coaches of the major high schools in Poland and filling them in on this scam, that may be useful, I would think.

He dosn't bring them here before they are accepted to a school. Just that when they get here, nothing is as it was promised. He is suppose to be there when you arive, but he never shows up.

Unfortunatly there really isn't anyone in Poland to tell. There are not any athletic programs in the schools. It's all individual clubs.

No, he promisises everything. $500 (and up) would be like $3000 to us. And the ones that actually make it to the US are the lucky ones that he didn't just take there money and "forget" about them.

you don't have to sugar coat it to get the media interested bro...

there was a guy recently convicted for abandonging a semi-truck load worth of mexican immigrants with the doors locked, so he wouldn't be caught. many of the overcramped individuals in there were killed.

human trafficking in all forms, and no matter how severe or limited, will catch the interest of a news organization. they want something that they can act as though they corrected, as though they made a better world because of their involvement.

state your reasons for letting them know, and if one person doesn't take it, call another. you've probably got like 4-5 local tv affiliates, but i'd be surprised if the first person didn't snatch it up.

btw, i know going this route seems like the long way to fixing it, but it's also the most legal way that'll get it done. it's tempting to beat the shit out of someone for something like that, but then the authorities would want to find you and make an example of someone for taking the law into their own hands. they'd probably forget about the other douche-bag entirely
