  • I'm going off the Effexor XR

For all who know, I had a bit of post-partum depression last year after my baby boy was born and thety put me on 75mgs of Effexor XR. It helped me so much! I've decided to try going off of them and have been weaning off... I'm down to 1 35mg pill everyother day. I'm a little dizzy when I take them, but other than that I am doing well.

Has anyone else been on anti-depressants and went off? How'd it go?

Actually I am on the same AD and i was up to 225mg but i am down to 150mg now, lowering the doses probably gives you a little bit of the shakes if you have the same reaction, but i wish you all the best and hope you can go off them without any problems, keep me posted i would like to hear how it goes.

Yes I am on Effexor XR right now at 150 and a few years back I was taking Prozac and it worked wonders, but as soon as I felt great, I decided I knew more than the dr and just stopped taking it. Eh, bad idea. When I finally got severely depressed again I wanted life to end so badly I cannot begin to describe the feeling of hopelesness and weakness. I'm not a big person and I lost 35lbs and looked like an anorexic. I saw a dr before I did something stupid and now things are as normal as they can be in our twisted society. I will come off them them but this time I'll listen to the dr...occassionally they have a clue, lol. AD's are no joke and unfortunately they are pushed like candy. I can honestly say I need them but I doubt the bulk of society does, especially children. They are very powerful drugs that seriously chemically alter your brain. I've done a lot of rec drugs when I was younger and I can say that when I first started taking the AD's... some of those rec drugs didn't even come close to the freight train effect of the AD's. Good luck and be careful. Don't rush it.

Make sure this is the right way to wean off (check with the doc, EOD dosing sounds like it's gonna give you some ups and downs).

I'm sure you know not to cut an XR in half...XR's have a coating that's made to disolve in your intestines instead of your stomach, cutting them will mess with the extended release properties and can be dangerous with many XR meds.

Good luck, DG. Glad to hear things are getting better for ya.

That would be tough, they're capsules. Of course you could pull them apart and divide up the pellets, lol...j/k.

my pills are 35mgs and i take them everyother day, I don't cut them in half. I don't get one today... we'll see how i do... I'm usually take my pills at 10am, so that would be in about 30 minutes. Hopefully I'll be fine.
