Originally posted by beefcake I'd like to see what happens when you try to put a guy as strong as titus in a submission hold. I'd say if baroni stays away and just tags him up then he may stand a chance, if he tries to lock up with him then he's done.
Joint locks work on a person of any size because it is a bodyweight/leverage thing applied to the tendons and ligaments. Akido is an excellent example of this principle. There is a wristlock dubbed "the hook" that I taught a huge bouncer friend of mine once after he dealt with a major altercation at the bar he worked in. He was probably around 265 @ 6'1" tall and strong as an ox. I had him take a swing at me and I put "the hook" on him and he was in quite considerable pain. To make the point of the effectiveness about joint locks, I forced him out the door and around the parking lot before bringing him back into the building. He didn't like it but it made the point, lol.
I realize the strength that Titus has but knowledge and experience trump strength. My bouncer friend was much heavier and stronger than I was but experience and technique won out. Anyone who has been on the receiving end of a properly applied joint lock knows the intense pain that can be applied and would think somewhat differently about it afterwards.
Baroni may be a mid-level fighter in UFC standards but against a non-experienced opponent (even a huge person like Titus), he would prevail in his home environment. Obviously HE thinks so or he certainly wouldn't have made the fight offer for Titus @ the combined 40k bet from his side.
LOL Titus??? Mike Tyson couldnt even compete with those guys.... Hes big... i know lots of huge punks,i mean most guys get into weights cause of being well you know inferior....
yeah, strength means little in a joint lock, it's all about the 'lever-arm' and the things you learned in high school physics. throwing a wrist lock on him is like taking a wrench to a soda bottle lid, it'll easily win and can just as easily do a lot of damage.
i'm sure titus has connections however that'll give him one hell of a crash course, still, i wouldn't put money on him if my life depended on it.
Wouldn't it be funny if after all this bullshit conjecture about Baroni's locking ability, ground work skills etc Titus beat him
IE "THE BIGGER GUY WON"
I don't pretend to be some expert but I have had a few fights in my time working as a doorman/bouncer on a weekend (which I no-longer do since I got engaged), and time after time I've had some loud mouth with a physique like a streak of piss in my face raving on about what he's going to do to me or had boxers (lighter than me) or squaddies (soldiers) trying to intimidate me with all that military training stuff. One good punch to the jaw and they are usually seeing stars, laid out on the floor.
Size doesn't win a fight on its own but if both fighters have some clue what they are doing, the bigger guy will win.
I know what you guys are saying as far as once baroni gets titus in a submission hold, i'm saying what will happen during the time that baroni is trying to get him in the hold. Wouldn't titus just be able to rip out of baroni's grip before he executes the lock and then probably pick him up and slam the shit out of him on the mat?

Yup:rofl:
Bodybuilders do well at grapple AND JUDO BECAUSE THEY HAVE SO MUCH close quarters strength
BTW, Lidell and Couture are on spike TV Saturday at 9:00pm.
This is what I expect from Titus vs Baroni
1 Titus rushes him and gets knocked on the chin
2 Titus rushes him and is fast enough to punish the guy
there's no way baroni will submit Titus unless he gets his back. If Baroni gets around to Titus' back, there's no way Titus could get out of it. He'd have to throw Baroni over the cage or something.
