  • People with home security systems..

We are getting a security system installed at our new house. I just wanted to get a basic price range from all the security companies, ie brinks, adt, etc. What is the usuall instalation fee, what is the fee per month? My main question is, who do you guys feel is the best? Thanks for any help.

I think we are going to go with brinks. They offer a flat $99.00 instalation fee and its $28.00 per month for monitoring.

We will go with brinks unless anyone has any suggestions on a cheaper company.

    thanks

My girlfriend had ADT and It cost her 3 months for 89.99 . And IF the alarm goes off it will call the cops. My girlfriends house was nearly robbed one day when no one was their but they ran for it when the alarm rang.

99$ aint bad but all companies here in cali will give you free alarm system and free install just for using there service. just like cell phones. if you want top of the line equipment youll pay but the basics are free. brinks has been around for a long time cant go wrong there.

don't you have big dogs? :D

Just make sure that you use it. A lot of people have them but get tired of setting them and turning them on and off. My family got robbed when I was about 11-12 and it still scares the crap out of me that people will actually break into houses.

Regardless of who you use, get a high wattage exterior speaker. Hide the wires however you can and have it connected to the alarm. Make it LOUD. Loud enough to piss off the neighbors. Twice I had neighbors scare off would be theives long before the law could get there because of the audible alarm.

                  Good Advice.

ADT has been pretty good. 25 bucks a month I think. 3 year contract is pretty standard.

Be careful of false alarms. In some places if the cops have to come out more than once or twice for a false alarm they start to fine you.

The company that installs it does not have to be the company that monitorss it.

If price is a concern, install a wireless one your self, tie into you phone to send a recorded message to the police. ie "I live at xxx, my alarm just went off, please check out"

If you do have pets, do not get motion sensors, infact do not get motion sensors with out pets. I bird flying by a window can set them off.

Put sensor at every door / window and maybe impact sensative sensors at very large windows.

Also make sure doors are deadbolted (keyed on both sides) so if someone gets in a window, they just can't unlock the door and walk out. They have to crawl back through the broken window.

If they offer an additional keypad for the bedroom, get it. Annoying to remember after you're in bed and nearly asleep that you forget to set the alarm and have to go downstairs to do it.
