It's not for just passing a joint to anyone...

"Passing a joint to someone who used to be in drug treatment will land you in federal prison for a minimum of five years."

Regardless of how you feel about it, it's still illegal! And going by the way you sound in your post, you probably smoke too. Potheads feel their drug is harmless, crackheads feel the same way and heroin addicts feel that they are not hurting anyone either! You wanna get high? Get high on life! Go run 5 miles and feel the endorphins kick in! You can't beat a natural high!

'By comparison, the average time served by convicted rapists in this country is about seven years.'

thats terrible... rapist should be locked up a lot longer than 7 yrs

i have to disagree....if alcohol and tobaco are legal , then so should pot. and think eventually it will be, or atleast decriminalized. I agree crack and so on should stay illegal, but most of the harm of pot comes from the drug trade, and that could easily be eliminated.

Well...growing up in the country I knew people that would steal other peoples pot which would then lead to fingerpointing and violence! Pot was plentiful back then and cheap too but it would still cause problems as it does today! Granted it may not be the worst drug out there but when your 13 year old nephew is busted for smoking it then we have to stop to it sometime!

your 13 year old nephue could be busted for drinking, smoking, drinking cough syrupe, all just as easily, if not more easily....im not saying everyone should be allowed to freely smoke pot all day...... i just dont get why its illegal and tobaco and boozs is not.... what makes those better than pot?

agreed 100% lxorl, you cant compare pot to crack and heroin. Whats the worst that is going to happen if you smoke to much pot, you're going to overeat and maybe fall asleep, give me a break. And dont try the gateway thing because someone is going to try what they what eventually anyway if they are curious enough. As long as kids are educated and parents are there that is really the best thing we can do, not lock up some 18 year old for selling a joint to his buddy who is seventeen for 5 years, thats absurd.

I am not saying that they are better, but they are regulated by the gov and you have to be a certain age to purchase them. Pot, on the other hand, is not regulated other than for medicinal purposes. My brother keeps everything locked up as far as alcohol so my nephew can't get to it but when his son goes over to some friends house, who has a friend that has a friend and they are pushing that shit on the kids it has to end! Make the punishments stiffer and the shit will stop!

Smoke too much and fall asleep behind the wheel and kill someone! No crime there huh? And for the gateway thing it is always in play! My best friend back in school went from smoking pot, to selling. Made some good money at it then went to trying blow, then dealing blow! Next thing you know he has done more than he has sold and has a bounty on his head. Goes to his dad, who was a wildlife official, and had to be taken into protective custody because he was in fear for his life and started rolling on people which later led to bust in Ocala and Miami. I hadn't heard from him since! I was sitting on his room mates couch when some guys came looking for him strapped with guns! Believe me....it will make you think twice about shit!

That was his choice, it has nothing do do with smoking grass, your buddy did not wind up ratting out his connections because he burned a joint. He fucked up his life because he got involved with shitty people and made shitty decisions not because he decided to smoke pot. I agree that in no way should young children be exposed to any form of drug use including smoking pot, my younger brother first started smoking pot in 5th grade, he didnt even know what he was doing, now the person who gave that to him should be punished but there has to be some discretion left up to the judge regarding each circumstance. With this new bill it ties their hands and makes it impossible for the judges to teach kids a lesson without ruining their lives.
