  • Anyone watch the last few "Deadliest Catch" episodes?

Man, those guys have got to be wired all of the time because at any given moment they can become severly injured or even fall overboard. They only have a few minutes to get rescued or they'll die. I think it was six fishermen that had been lost during the filming. Nasty stuff. The Alaska crabbing season will no longer be based upon short time frames anymore. Instead, it will now be switched over to a quota system in an effort to minimize the high mortality rate of crab fishermen.

Here is an interesting article about the series Discovery Channel Embarks on Death-Defying Mission in DEADLIEST CATCH

I wonder if the fishermen are pissed. This eliminates the chance of hitting the jackpot and the TV series is prolly responsible for it.

Actually, the change of the fishing season structure from time frame to quotas was already announced prior to the TV documentary. The series only came about to document the last crabbing season under these conditions (abbreviated time frame, overloaded boats, high moratlity and injury rate). Think of the series as more of an immortalization of the long established Alaskan Crab fishermen tradition. I really can't stand "reality TV" but this show isn't cheesy like the rest of them and it IS the real thing, not some bunch of people thrown together in a contrived situation to stir up emotion and to get ratings. This is their actual lives on display and the risks are real.

        Cool.
I have missed it the last 2 weeks.

Discovery does not repeat it 50 times all week long like alot of other shows.

I went on a cruise last year and just so happened I pulled a muscle in my lower back the day before the cruise so I was in bed for the first two days of the cruise and watched television the whole time. I caught this show and I must say they definitely go through some crazy shit to catch those crabs. Show made me pretty hungry too!
