Need help with scanning a text into MS Word

I'm trying to scan thes pages of manual into my word program. I know there is some way you can scan it and then the word program can recognize the letters. Then I am able to edit it like it was a new word document. I can only get it to come up as an image, like clip art into the word document.

I've done this before but I believe you need some recognition software to go with the scanner you are using.
