CSCS is far and away the most reputable and most difficult to obtain. Its recognized worldwide.

Definately ,but the ones you are going to come across that most gyms and gym members are going to know are NASM and ACSM. Between these two I would go with NASM thought. ACE is outdated.

www.exercisecertification.com is the most comprehensive. Being the most popular or the most recognized doesn't mean much in the certification business. During the last two decades it has been raped of any reputation by most of the "popular" certifications. What other cert takes a year to complete and actually bases your passing on a whether or not you can properly train someone. And answering close to 30 essay questions where logic and real knowledge are needed instead of repeating the "Black" words from the book and their definitions is good enough.

CSCS would be my first option, as YJ has said. not only is it recognized, but it actually teaches you something worth while.

Unfortunately I do not have the money for it right now. I am getting a cert through NESTA first, then, with some extra money on the side, I will be going back and getting something that may just teach me something.

same here. Since thier opening up a Golds Gym here in town and the owner wants me to work their, it be a plus for me to get certified.

Here in my city there are a dozens gyms which most of the trainers are not certified at all. People are gonna wanna get trained by someone who knows and looks good not by some fat dude.

Alot of these certs actually require you to get so much continuing education per year to recertify, maybe 12 hours worth, which also costs money. The reason why I went with NESTA was that it cost $250 and never expires and you don't need to get con ed.

Say what? Would you rather be trained by someone with a CSCS or someone with an ACE? I think that goes without saying. Many of my clients and others I know refuse to be trained by anyone without a college-level education and certification. Anyone can get an ACE, ISSA, etc.

CSCS takes 4 years of formal education. And I wont even go into the CSCS certification test. Essay questions are easy, can you perform 100 different questions practically in front of 5 examiners? That is the true test of knowledge.

Im not knocking any other cert. Im just saying, CSCS is far and away the most respected.
