For the last couple of weeks I've been sick on and off. I don't know what got it all started but I had the Flu. I drank a little bit on a Saturday night and felt like crap the next day. This is unusual since I only drank 6 beers the night before. I slept til 11, then went back to sleep til 3 the following day. I started to get diareaha a little the day following the drinking, but didn't think much of it until that night. I woke up at midnight with Chills and aching all over. I took my temp and I was at 102.5. I was sick plain and simple. I went to the doctor the next day and she basically told me to drink fluids and eat jello and other soft foods. After a couple of days I felt fine but still had diareaha. I mean like eat and 15 mins later I was in the bathroom with my belly gurgling. Through this time I had been taking some antibiotics for my skin. I think the one I'm on now is Bactrim, a sulfur based drug. I didn't take any while I felt like crap and as I started to get better, I started taking them again. I had to learn the hard way, but don't take antibiotics when you have the flu. I killed all of the good bacteria in my intestine and that's why I had the diareaha. I ate yogurt all day and took some of this acidopholis and after a couple of days I was back to normal. THEN, my mom got a round of this. I was over there several evenings taking her things that she wanted/needed and I think I picked up the virus again. I felt like crap this last Thur Fri and Sat, but felt good on Sunday. I ate good until about 7PM last night and started getting the damn diareaha again. So now I'm off to get more of the acidopholis and more yogurt to eat. The culture in the yogurt and acidopholis will put the "good" bacteria back into my system and get things moving through me the right way again. I thought the antibiotics would always "help" and not hurt a person. However in this case they had a severe negative effect. If one person could learn from this other than me, then great. This is also a great plan to drop some weight, but I wouldn't suggest it. I went from 225 down to about 212 in 2 weeks due to not being able to eat/lift near what I usually do. I did loose some fat, so I'm going to get back on track, try to eat better and do some more cardio and see what happens. Later people.

Antibiotics can help in certain situations but not always. If taken for too long they will kill off the good bacteria in the stomach and make you sick. If your gf is taking birthcontrol pills and starts taking antibiotics they will render her bc pills useless. That is why it is always best to ask your Dr about side affects and interactions with other meds and how long they should be taken.

    Glad you are feeling better!

Hope you're feeling back to normal soon.

Pick up some pro-biotics at the health food store. This will help keep the good bacteria flourishing. Although yogurt has acidopholis, it also has sugars which the bad bacteria thrive on and if you're sensitive to dairy, yogurt will aggrivate the situation. Usually when dealing with diareah it's best to avoid dairy. Plain white rice and bannanas tend to help solidify things.

I went camping once with my GF and some friends. We met some other friends at a campground and I got really REALLY sick the next day with some major abdominal cramps. I had to go to the local hospital it was so bad. They took bloodwork and urine and after a while, the doctor came out and asked me what I've eaten or drank during the last 24 hours. I told her nothing out of the ordinary. She then told me that I had a bacterial infection stemming from contact with fecal matter!! WTF?!

Well, it turns out that later on, there were others at the campground complex that also became very ill. At some point, it was traced to the general campground ice making machine/storage chest. I didn't want to get all of the sickening details and I was so repulsed by this information that I never even went back to get my stuff. Later on, some friends brought it home for me. Even if you're careful, you never know WHAT you've been in contact with or ingested sometimes.
