My pissed off rant

This happened about an hour ago. Approx. 7:50am. I am in my girlfriends dorm after I got off work, while she is still sleeping. Two male maintnance employees of the school, knocked on the door hard three times. I was half asleep when they opened the door and my girlfriend was still asleep. I am pissed off that they don't take better precautions before entering the room. What if she had been in the shower, had headphones on, etc. I went and talked to the lady that supervises the dorms and all she had to say was that is there policy to knock and then announce themselves as maintnance before entering. After they saw me they just walked in and said they needed to get to something across the room. The supervisor lady said that they just assumed that since they saw a guy it was alright. What if being a guy I didn't want them in at this moment. I didn't say anything about that becuase I didn't want to make it about me. I asked her if they should know who's dorm they are entering first. She said they do. I just kind of looked at her and she quickly changed it to the fact that I am not supose to be in the room until after 11am anyways. I said sorry for that, but it dosn't change what happened. That the "procedures" were very poorly followed. I asked why they didnt get the campus police to be there with them while they opened the door or have a female employee present. She simply said they don't have the resources to have someone with the maintnance staff when ever they need. She left it at she would let the maintnance know that my girlfriend had a porblem with what happened. I'm sure that will be taken to heart :rolleyes:. I didn't want to get into it further, but they should have a better set of procedures for there safety also. How would they be able to prove what really happened if a women suddenly became uncomfortable with them being there, or whatever. Then decided to file some sort of harrasement suite against the school. Only thing that can be proven is that they were in a female students dorm early in the morning while the student was there. I can almost garantee you that the student would be put in favor of being protected over the maintnance staff if they care anything about there reputation.

Sounds like maybe they were hoping to catch a pretty girl getting reaady for class....you DID mention that they are aware of who occupies a room that they need to enter. A pretty girl could certainly stand out in their minds too-even more incentive to rush the knock and walk in on her. Follow up and see what happens.

Well she just came back from droping something off to the same ladies office. Someone else there told her that the lady had talked to the staff. I guess it was the head maintnance guy. He said that he announced himself, but he will make sure to make sure it is heard better next time. I honestly don't think that there were bad intentions. I am just not one to wait around for something to really happen before saying anything. Like I said it isn't only for the students safety, it is for the schools also.

I cant stand people comming into my place or touching anything of mine. We are in the apartment now waiting for our house to get finished being built. Anyway, the aprtment people always come to change the smoke detectors and shit like that and it drives me nuts. They dont come eaerly in the morning or anything but they just come up and knock on the door and say "maintence" or whatever and my boxer dog goes nuts! I have to put him in the back bed room or else he will kill them. It just pisses me off. Cant wait to get the hell out of here in 2 months.

It's all about respect IMO. When I was living in my apartment, the owner NEVER came into my apartment without my permission. He was a good and honest guy, so I even told him on a couple instances he could go in when I was not there. Soon after, a big company took over the apartments. The maintanance guys came in whenever they wanted. I was dating a girl at the time and I had words with them once about it. I was very tactful but made my point clear. I told them that even though they were allowed in my home, I still had rights. From that point on, they always called when they were on their way to the apartment. Maybe that's what they need to do. Call ahead of time to give notice. Seems that showing up suddenly is a good way to se something they aren't suppsed to.

I think I get more privacy with living with my parents than ya'll do the apartments.

Shibby, can she put one of those chain locks on the door and frame? This way then can get in if she's not there, but if she is then they won't.
