  • Hey guys

gotta question for u all. I havent gotten check by the doctor or anything yet but ive seen losing my concentration. I cannot concentrate anymore like i used to before when I was younger. I was a "A" "B" student back in the day in school. NOw in college I cannot concentrate on my classes, when the teachers are explaining. When I read the chapters of my courses, I cannot remember what Ive read. On tests I go black. Im currently studing right now for a test. I already read the chapters 2 days ago and finished today morning. The thing is right now im reading and all i feel is pressure on my head and eyes hurt. Could it be over studing.

Another thing is, when I watch movies with my girlfriend, I cannot make of what the movies about. This is only when its a new movie. Shes all into it and like "huh". Like if it goes one ear and comes out the other. Its been getting serious recently, people talk to me and they think im not paying attention to them cause im elsewhere.

Is there anything i can take. I was told to go to GNC and buy some supps on this or pills or something. Just wondering if these things will help. Im starting to worry because since i wanna go into the law enforcement field or firefighting, this year im gonna take some exams and dont wanna fail them because of lack on concentration.

Gingko Biloba is supposed to help with concentration.

It sounds as though you may be in college, which leads me to my next question: do you drink alcohol frequently? Alcohol consumption can affect your short term memory which would make sense wi/ the problems you're having.

i drink but once a month. I go to my local community college. I havent drank recently. I don't do drugs either nor done them before. Ever since i started college its been happening. I was just talking to my mom right now about this. Ive been in school since 2001, been going part-time and about a year full time. The same things been going on over and over. They just thought I was playing dumb and skipping school or not putting effort, but in reality I couldnt concentrate. I failed classes and then retook them. Always took them twice.

I had to stop right now cause i feel pressure on my head. Worried too because this test determines if i pass the course or not.

I think that's a possiblility too. Not a strong ADD, just a mild case maybe since he did so well in earlier grades.

Juice, go to your doc and discuss what you've been going through, maybe a low dose of meds will help you out. I know from my daughter she has her ups and downs, when she really tries she does well dispite her ADHD, meds though, they help a lot. She's been on meds since 1st grade and has remained on the lowest dose, so don't think once you start it gets worse, if you have ADD you can work with your doc to find what's best for you.

It could be stress levels too man. If you have a lot of things on your mind then you won't be able to concentrate very well.

take some time off man. I have had to do this a couple times. You just get too much on you plate and need to breath a bit. Take a semester off and go back to it.

I am not ruling out ADD but i would look enviornmental first.

I recently started taing this stuff, out of the blue my moms like here, llok at what i got you. She was like its supposed to help me out with memory and concentration. After that ive been taking it now since school started about 2-3 weeks ago. It happend today i remember a thread i made and you mentioned Gingko Biloba. I dont know if its me or if its the Gingko but my mind is more clear and concentration is there too. I could read now for hours and not lose my concentration. I tend to memorize things more now. Thanx :)

                        Juice:

When I was in college I had a tendency to draw pictures or doodle whent he professor was teaching. I would sit and think anything imaginable but the teacher. In fact I would sit and look at the teacher and it sometimes seem that they were speaking a different language or something. I also would read the textbooks and be clueless of what I was reading.

However, I got a BS and MS in Engineering and I am a professional engineer today. A couple of things that may help you:
1- Sit ONLY on the front row directly in front of your professor. (this will force you to focus more because you don't want to be called on and not know what is going on)
2- when you have to read text (highlight and tab important topics. It may help to get a notepad and briefly resumarize what the text means to "Juice". (or write it in your book- make it interesting)

Good Luck! I think the important thing is that you recognize it.

Plus make sure that you are getting out and having fun. WORK HARD, PLAY HARD!

                          Hey Juice,

are you really stressed out at all. I found in college the older people did better like they could remember more. When I am stressed I can't remeber even the simplest things. My first year of college was kind of like that. The second year I was relaxed and did really well. I was 24 whenI graduated from Business.

I have been smoking alot of grass lately too and that messes up my memory alot.

thats what ive been doing recently sitting in the front. I pay more attention and stuff. Since the teachers know me from other subjects ive taken with them, i get called on more and i answer, cause i dont wanna look like a jackass. Ive been doing better.

to tell u the truth bro, i was stressed out big time before. This semester is awesome, less stress and all. And the weird thing is that im going fulltime now, beore it was part time or 3/4 of the time to school. I had more pressure on passing and all. Now its like i take things slow. I concentrate on the classses which im gonna test on the following week. I still need some time to get my AS and eventually my BA, but im working on it. Next summer i get my AS and career job and will go to school still to get my BA. iM ALL GOOD NOw. wiLL keep you all updated on grades and all.
