I've had a bunch of surgeries and it's not anything to get too worked up about...I would, though, ask the anaesthesiologist to make sure to put in some gravol or something, as I barf almost every time i go under, unless I mention it first.

I hope everything turns out ok, and I'm sure the surgery will go fine.

I have had a few surgeries too. What will they be doing? I had a discectomy on L5. In other words, had a synthetic disc put in it's place. Took me a few months to get back to a healthy life style and took about 6 months before I was totally back to normal. This was when I was 19...I am 26 now.

Had an appendectomy, tonsilectomy hernia and a couple other ectomies (lol) and all kinds of weird shit done to my eye. I have chronic Papilophylbitis in my left eye. Shit is annoying as hell.

I've had a few surgeries and I guess the worst part for many people (depends on the surgery) is right after they wake up. Sometimes there's naussia and vommiting, sometimes dizziness, pain at the surgery site, and a sore throat. They won't release you until the vomitting and dizziness are gone and you can stand up on your own. You will have to have someone drive you to the hospital for surgery and be there to pick you up, they will not let you drive after surgery. They will go over a list of post-op things for you to follow, make sure someone is there with you to understand this stuff since you'll still be a bit out of sorts from the anestessia. You will usually be given prescriptions to get filled (pain killers/antibiotics) so drop em off at the pharmacy on the way home if it's convenient, then get yourself settled in at home and the person can go back out to pick up the script. Make sure someone's home with you for the next day or so (depending in how much help you'll need getting around).

When you get to the hospital for the surgery you'll have a bunch of nurses check in and ask you questions, as well as the anestessiologist, and eventually the doctor. They'll hook up your IV. You'll be laying under the covers pretty much nakey so don't be afraid to ask the nurse for more blankets if you're cold. You will likely be given a mild seditive to help you relax. When it's time for the anestessia to begin, it's usually injected into the IV and you don't really feel it for more than a few seconds and the feeling is kinda good, relaxing.

Surgery really isn't too bad of an experience. I guess the more you have the easier it becomes. It doesn't bother me at all.

Good luck and I wish you a fast recovery!
