  • I Am Doing A 1/2 Ironman Triathlon On Saturday

It is my first one of the season.

I usually do about 5-6 a season with a couple of sprints, 4 or 5 olympic distances and finish off the year with a half.

This year I decided to skip the smaller races and get ready for the half ironman.

Everything has been going well except for my IT band has been acting up a bit. Hopefully it doesnt get me on race day.

Anyway, I will let you know how I did.

oh and btw - if you dont know what a 1/2 ironman is it is:

    1.2 mile swim
    56 mile bike
    13.1 mile run

shooting for 5 1/2 hours but we will see.

    wish me luck.

I've had my share of IT band issues before and the pain involved is beyond excruciating. I hope it doesn't flare up on you during your event. I used to place one of those knee bands around the top of the affected knee and it helped quite a bit during the times where my IT band was flaring up. The worst part about the IT band is that it takes a long time of INACTIVITY to allow it to heal. And it usually starts flaring up the week before the event you trained for!

        Good luck man,
        David

That's awesome tinfish! I'll be thinking of you when I'm doing my century ride this weekend! My goal is to do an ironman next year--I've got the running and biking down pat, I just need to work on the swimming this winter.

Let us know how it goes--and good luck with your IT band!

I've never heard of the 1/2 Ironman before- Ironman, yes. It still sounds impressive. A 5-1/2 hours completion time- holy crap! I'd be looking at 2 days- maybe, lol. Good luck and let us know how you did.

Good luck bro. It is impressive as hell that you can compete in those. I couldnt imagine doing one.

My mom did one a while back, she said it was the hardest thing she ever did. I give alot of credit to triatheletes, runners, and cyclists: it takes a kind of discipline that is not there in lifting. I dont think I could handle it.
