The majoirty of these 'scares' are primarily propaganda and bullshit... fo example, read this statement concerning mad cow disease on PETA's website"
Oh, guess we'd all better just eat vegetables and tofu.If you eat meat, you already have to worry about salmonella, E. coli, campylobacter, heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, and cancer, as well as your weight. Now, add mad cow disease and its chicken, fish, pig, and turkey variants to the list! That’s right—any animal with a brain might get infected with the disease. We've already identified mad cow disease variants in humans, sheep, mink, cows, elk, deer, and cats.
Just for reading this, Im having an extra steak for dinner, make up for one that a PETA member wont eat.
I did extensive research on BSE back in 2002 for a class and back then there was 0 deaths related to BSE in the US. US and FDA quality control on beef, and other meats is far too superior for mad cow to break out in the United States....
But like B said, I respect your decision and do what ya gotta do.... Ill have a NY strip tonight for you too :)

I am no expert on this as I am vegetarian, but I thought the BSE risk is only significant in things like hamburger meat where the beef is ground up and there is a greater chance of brain matter getting mixed in - I would think that the risk is relatively minor in other cuts.

just so you guys know...none of my choices are from "tree huggers" lol. The history book I read on it was purely scientific as far as the background of it and how it was discovered. I basically added the scare factor in myself as most US companies I don't trust to keep good testing practices because if god forbid some got on the market then the beef ecoomy would be shot.

Of ocurse I do not eat pork unless I have too.
I've had McGuire's steak and it is to die for! That was the first place I ever saw that put a lump of garlic butter on the hot steak as it was served to you.

You poor poor thing!! :hang:Originally posted by stonecold54....the shit scares the crap out of me...I read the book about the mad cow disease and the history of Creutzfeldt-Jakob's disease. You can't cook it to death and I don't trust the beef industry one bit. Its just pork, chicken and turkey for this white boy, lol.

Seriously though, SC, if you are concerned, just make sure you buy beef that's organic and free range. Usually, it's been tested for everything to get that kind of certification. I only eat organic free range meat, whether it's beef, chicken. turkey, or whatever. It's a little more expensive, but worth the risk of toxic poisoning over the long term.
