Possibly four attempted explosions in three different sites (the tube again) but were likely only the detonators and not main devices, according to media and British police reports. If there were actual bombs, the detonators did not fire them. Probably screwups on the terrorist(s') part. Very interesting news that the government quickly had all cell sites shut down servicing those areas. I believe that it would prevent cellphones from being used as detonation devices (like from an incoming call or possibly as an alarm timer) since cellphones derive their time clocks (hence, the alarms too) from cell signals. This buys LE time to search for unexploded devices that could still be in the subway or nearby.

I need to know what you all think.

I have a trip planned to go to London the beginning of September. We booked our tickets the NIGHT BEFORE 7/7. The airline said they would honor cancellations for travel through 7/12...Not applicable.

Well, after the recent unsuccessful attempts, do you all think I should even go into London? I've never been....We land in Heathrow on Sept 2., then go straight to Wales for a wedding. On Sunday, we are going to Scotland and returning to London the late evening of the 6th. We depart London on the 9th.

My mom is pretty nervous....I would just hate to be in the UK and not see any of London. And I think we would stick w/ taxis in London more than the Tube.

Isn't this what the terrorists want??? To scare everyone on the "what if"? I mean, I'm no crusader or anything, nor do I want to be put in harm's way for a vacation....but I'd like some other opinions on this.

Just go... if you are really worried about using the tube, take a taxi. I have traveled many many times to London and this was when the IRA was lot more of a threat than it is now, and I never once gave it a second thought.

You are probably just as much of risk going to any major city in the US. If someone is willing to trade their lives to end yours it will happen. Other than that you can only do your best to be careful.

London is a great city. Kinda hard to get all of it in in just 3 days - it's going to be pretty hectic. See if you can rejig your schedule to get 1 or 2 more days. Even if you do London in 3 days, I would strongly recommend Bath, Salisbury Cathedral and Stonehenge (can be done in 1 trip), Hastings on the Southern coast where the Normans landed and of course Stratford-upon-Avon. I would hate to miss those on a UK trip.
