  • I forgot ...

how stupid a lot of people that lift weights at the gym are. I joined a Golds Gym that just opened in my area. I built my own gym at home but figured working out with other people at a gym may be good motivation and would at least be good for a spot once in a while. Well, it opened this week so I went yesterday to check it out and do a quick bi workout and it certainly was not motivating. Guy next to me was curling 20lb dumbells and the guy behind me was curling 85lb on a ez curl bar and using his entire body to rock the thing up and down and the other guy near me was the only one that slightly resembled a bodybuilder but had to yell on every rep to draw attention to how strong he was or something--how freaking distracting. 90% of the people in there were using sloppy form and were clearly clueless as evidenced by their lack of size/definition. I don't know how long I'll keep my membership if this is what it's gonna be like all the time-I think I'll try working out in the morning and see if the guys are any better in the morning than right after work.

--and then there's the trainers. I don't even want to go into this. I don't know who would want to train with these people that I certainly wouldn't want to look like. I sat there and watched them show people how to work out with bad form and just throwing together a random workout plan with no logic or thought put into it. I doubt these people have any certification whatsoever. I'm gonna quit on this one before my blood pressure goes up anymore, but those trainers need to be beat for perpetuating their ignorance. :spank:

Bad trainers abound at my gym and so do the morons but the gym has good equipment so I deal with it, plus I'm usually training there with Stromba so either we're ignoring the other stuff or we can get a laugh or pissed off about something together which fules a workout. The one thing that pisses me off is if I'm using a machine and someone takes a plate off or loads one on while I'm in the middle of a set, it's just very distracting, they can wait a few seconds until I'm done.

You'll probably find that the crowd varries depending on the day of the week and the time of day. My gym is empty on Friday nights, most Saturdays and Sundays but Mondays are crazy busy. Weekdays early in the day it's mostly retired people and housewives, early afternoon we have a lot of students and cops, then it gets really busy after 5 with people from work and it begins to empty out again around 7:30. Ask the people who work there and they should be able to give you an idea on their busy and quiet times.

That is why I went from a nice cool air conditioned health center to a hot dirty gym. Very few people to annoy me.

makes me laugh when people train with bad form, u try helping them out and next day thier back into thier own ways.

As for the trainers, hahahahahaha Ive seen those one too many times.
U got either these skinny pukes or some beer belly chubby dude showing people proper ways of training. Hahahahaha, thats just crazy. One dude once messed up some chicks back due to improper form.

The problem is my health insurance pays for the air conditioned yuppy gym but they won't pay for a cheaper, real gym that people who are serious would go to. Instead they pay for people to go tan, sit in a sauna and have a "health" shake at the juice bar!

This, unfortunately, is an all too common problem. The exact scenario exists in the gym where I train. Know nothings who don't want to learn, clueless trainers, poor-form showoffs. I pay them no mind. I usually train alone... I know who the real athletes are if I need a hand, and they know me. Occasionally, a newbie will ask me for advice, whch I am glad to give. I don't mind helping someone who is seriously trying. Few speak to me, most avoid me. Of course, I work out with a dead cat in my mouth

Yeah, I'm afraid I dont look too approachable either-headphones in with a scowl on my face. All business when I'm at the gym, unless she's really hot!

I don't pay attention to anyone around me. I put on my headphones and stay very focused and zone out.

ACE is actually one of the more reputable certifications along with ISSA. I think you may be thinking of AAFA, YJ.

Drawing from your expertise on this YJ, which one do you think is the best certification to have?
