  • CRAZY SHIT!!

The strangest thing had happened when I got home from work and the gym last night. I walk into my house and hear this cracking sound coming from the living room. I look to see that my glass top desk has shattered into a million pieces all over the floor. My computer seems to be fine but I just don't see any evidence of foul play. It was tempered glass like auto glass, so thats why it shattered into thousands of tiny pieces.

Can this type of glass just do this by itself or do you guys have any idea? The desk is right in front of a window. Could the sun have heated it up too much and then it shattered when it cooled? Has this ever happened to any of you guys because this is just too freaky? Nobody broke in and just my landlord has a key and he is the nicest guy on earth.

If it is tempered glass it wouldn't have been the heat that did it. Was the glass supporting the weight of the computer by itself or was it on top of a hard wood desk? Do you have any pets that may have jumped up there and added too much weight on the glass? Was there something place up above that could have fallen and landed on it?

probably some kids messing around or something...If you throw a little white piece of a spark plug at a window it will shatter it..

The glass was very thick and supported by a very heavy durable steel frame. The computer tower is on the floor. The only thing that it was supporting was a very light flat panel monitor, and a couple of small speakers and a small lamp. There are a few misc. odds and ends in the line of office supplies, but nothing of any great weight. My keyboard and mouse were under the glass on a separate pull out shelf. No pets and nothing hanging above the desk. I am baffled.

You're telling me!! There was glass in every nook and cranny you could imagine. I got as much of the big stuff up as I could with thick gloves on and then vacuumed up all the little shards. I'm definitely going to be wearing flip flops in the living room for a while until I vacuum a few more times.

I know!! I'm actually starting to wonder if my landlord had something to do with it. He may be some kind of freak. It just doesn't make sense that this shit exploded on its own.

Ya, I would bet that someone was in there messing around and did it on accident or something. Either that, or your shit is haunted. Something like that just dosent happen for nothing.

This isn't related other than glass exploding, but one time in my early 20's I used a Pyrex dish on the stove top. Well, everything seemed to be going fine until I tried to remove the dish w/the cooked goods in it. Turns out that the bottom was melted to the stove top. Instead of just leaving it alone and trying to get it once it cooled off, I decided I'd add some cold water to it and try to get it before the glass completely hardened on the stove top. It only took one drop and the thing exploded like a firecracker. Talk about a real mess.
