We are the richest and most powerful country in the world and we seem to have no trouble getting a marine expeditionary force ready to ship out to any corner of the globe with 24 hours of notice, yet we can't seem to get organized stateside even after 3+ days. It is a bloody disgrace.

After this crisis is behind us and we analyze what went wrong, I hope there will be hell to pay.

Now I do agree with Puddles that these people should of evacuated cause they had plenty of time to know this was coming and they had plenty of time to get people ready.

New York and Florida had federal help right away, especially Florida cause look who's Govenor. They had money coming in not soon after it happened.

I'm sorry but I'm really loosing compassion for many of these people.

That's a pretty heartless comment. Of course the media is going to portray a lot of looting and what not, but what they haven't been showing much of is people helping people. I agree the looters are a bunch of dirt bags that should be shot, but you can bet there are a lot of people that really are trying to help one another.

I saw an interview with a woman who was taken out of the dome and when they asked her if she'd received food and drink she had the NERVE to complain that it was army food and crackers, that she hadn't received a HOT meal in a few days. WTF???? She's lucky she got any food at all. Why didn't she get her ass out and evacuate when there was pleanty of time to do so. Even if these people had to walk, they could have evacuated, then the only people left there would be sick and elderly people who we'd be able to rescue without having our hellicopters shot at.

Have you ever gone days without eating? Or how about going days without eating nearly anything, having all your possesions gone, not knowing if all of your family is okay, not having much if any drinking water, and forget about electricity and taking a bath or for that matter sleeping much. Have all this happen to you and see if you may be a bit cranky....



Now I've read where you have continually said "these people could have walked out of there." Well, where were they going to go Puddles....Some of them were poor as it was, do you think they would have gotten a hotel room somewhere with their looks maybe....I don't know if you've ever been poor but some of these people were not able to leave and just up and stay somewhere else for financial reasons. So please, stop saying some of them could have just walked out of the city.

New Orleans had the highest death rate in the country and now I see why. A bunch of fuckin animals live there. Actually, animals behave better than this, they at least take care of their own. It seems these people left in N.O. are just out for themselves and it's really ruining it for the ones who truly need help.

It's a disgrace that we have to send in our own military just to keep peace and get these people in order so we can evacuate them.

I agree that it is shameful for those people to be looting and stealing like they are, but what I don't understand what the hell is taking so long to get the military in there. We have marines, army, navy, air force, national guard, etc......If we would have got a hand on this shit as soon as it started it wouldn't have escalated into what it is now.

And some people are saying it's taking so long and other rebuttle by saying the country is doing all it can......

I think yes, it is taking way too damn long. For DECADES people have been fearing this situation and knew it was not a matter of if but a matter of when. A plan should have been formulated long ago on how to fix this. While FEMA was making models of what would happen if the city got hit by a major hurricane, maybe they should have made more models of what they were going to do after the hurricane. The city didn't become a major crime place over night, the government knew that as well and should have sent more troops in before it started to avoid the situation we are in now. New Orleans is a beautiful place with lots of culture. Most of the people there are great folks....but as with most big cities there are projects and bad neighborhoods filled with shitty people and that's where all this damn looting and what not are coming from. I pray that this situation gets under control as soon as possible and that these people receive the aid they need NOW.

whether you like bush or not he has been dealt disasters that were natural and disasters that were forced that no other president has had to deal with in the same degree.....he made the best decision he could to deal with each situation

Do you have even the slightest clue what it takes to coordinate the necessary relief efforts? Why not blame the citizens of the states surrounding Louisiana? They're better able to provide immediate relief than our government is. Why don't you fly your scrumhalf down there and have a look for yourself. Katrina was a gentle breath of fresh air compared to the tsunamis that hit the coast of Asia in December. 140,000 people lost their lives. We can't even begin to imagine those conditions.

The US is the most powerful country in the world and we have more than enough resources to deal with this catastrophe, as extreme as it is. The problem is a lack of leadership at the top to step in, take over and coordinate the activities.

And comparing to the tsunami is bogus. The tsunami hit third world countries with no warning. In this case, the richest and most advanced country in the world had multiple days of warnings with everyone knowing that this was a Cat 5 storm and yet we are caught short.

I am not even going to bring up the shortsightedness including erosion of wetlands, cutting of funding for levee improvements etc. that the congress and the government have been systematically doing over the years.

I realize that my statement was harsh but it was directed towards the people there who were destructive, those are the many people I have lost compassion for. The old people, the sick people, the decent people, those people I have immense compassion for, it is the compassion for those people that has angered me so much towards the others.

Yes, I have gone for days without eating but I didn't get violent. There is a huge difference between "getting a bit cranky" as you put it vs. becoming violent.

Yes, I grew up poor. I lived in one of the worst areas of my suburb. The projects were just a few blocks away. We could not afford much but we managed. Most summer days my mother had me working in the garden so we could grow enough food to can to help us have cheap food to eat in the winter. I shovelled horse manure into the garden to make what was basically sand into viable soil.

When I was an adult, I received gov't assistance for a short time time but I took myself off while I was still technically entitled to assistance. There were times where all I had was spare change to buy food at the supermarket. Did I steal? No. Did I become violent? NO. Did I find work? YES!

Do I know what it's like to live a poor life, yes. Did I have the ambition to make a change for the better, yes. So don't talk to me like I'm some prissy ass without understanding and compassion.

Last year I had famly members who I couldn't reach due to Charlie, my Godmother, Godfather, his father, my cousins, and their children. I know what it's like to worry, to not know if they were alive or not. My mother's neighborhood was destroyed but we found her hours later and got her out, however she couldn't find friends for many weeks.

During the hurricanes last year most of my community was without power for a week. There was no violence.

Where were these people to walk to? Anywhere out of the city which was sure to flood. Had they been walking on the sides of the highways they could have been rescued easilly.

Not getting military personell in there quicker is still no reason for the chaos that has ensued. I agree, I don't entirely understand why there was such a delay in getting the gov't to get help in there. However, when some help was offered, they were attacked and had to leave.

New Orleans had great history however in recent times it is not anything like it used to be. New Orleans had the highest murder rate in the country and 25% of it's residents lived in poverty level. There's something very wrong with having such a high percentage of people living in poverty and it is a way of life for some, they don't even try to change.
