I met my wife on Aug. 4th, 2001 in the strangest of settings. A setting that not too many of us will ever encounter, and hopefully never encounter. I was diagnosed with brain cancer back in June of 2001, so that was a time of my life where, well lets just say, I wasn't too upbeat. I basically hid from everyone who tried to be there for me, including my parents and friends. I guess I was in a position to where I didn't feel the need for any special attention, even though I probably needed it. My thing was, why did I have to become extremely ill for people to really show that they cared about me? Anyways, once my treatments were established and the protocol began, the oncology center that I was attending in the DFW area become a second home to me. During my first few visits to this facility, I met a really nice girl who was extremely attractive. She was working an intern position as a radiation therapist assistant and I got to know her pretty quickly, being the fact that I made frequent trips to this facility. This girl finally showed a different side of herself one day and got personal with me. She asked me where my family was, why aren't they here, and stuff like that. I told her that my relationship with my parents wasn't that good and it was mostly my fault. She was very receptive to me during this time, and she basically came out and said, "If you need a support figure, then I'll be that person for you". I'm not sure what I was more excited about...... the fact that this girl was going to play a support role for me during this tough time or the fact that she was hot and maybe had an interest in me. You have to understand that I looked like the main character in the movie "Powder" at the time she presented this to me.
So she and I became really good friends, really quickly. She was coming over to my house at night and hanging out with me. She watched me through the yuckiest of times, as I'd often spend my nights by the toilet anticipating a long round of puking that could last hours on end. But for whatever reason, it didn't phase her. I finally had to tell myself that this girl is here for more reasons than one, and I was able to confirm it a few nights later. I had fallen asleep in my bed one night and I woke up to find her asleep on my couch. I grabbed some blankets and covered her up, and then made my way back to bed. I woke up the next morning with her asleep at my side. Oh what a great feeling this was. She had class that next morning and she purposely missed her first two classes to make sure that I had everything that I needed for the day. This meant so much to me, and I still thank her to this day.
I was finally overcame my cancer on Aug. 14th, 2002 and she was right by my side in celebration. That day was special for more than one reason. I proposed to her that day and she said "YES" with no hesitation. She had seen me at the lowest point in my life, and said that I was a stronger than most are who are 100% healthy. She had been there to support me through 5 months of chemo, 2 abrasive surgeries, and everything else associated with cancer. I knew that she was the one the day that she asked me about my parents in the oncology center.
So we got married in the Spring of 2003. Had a nice wedding and a very memorable honeymoon. We delayed our honeymoon a few months after we got married and decided that we would go after the oncologist had officially labeled me as having a successful one year remission period. It made the honeymoon that much better for the both of us!
Attached are some pictures for you guys. Yes, she is attractive, but she's even hotter on the inside! I'll start another thread here soon and go into more detail about my cancer treatments. I've got some good stories to share.
