Only take those results w/a grain of salt. You don't know how many hops your connection is taking or where it is being routed to. Try downloading a meter... www.dumeter.com. We use it at work after we install someones broadband to see what they are getting before we lock down their pipe. After you install it select kbps inthe options (it is KBps by default which is bytes not bits per second). It's handy to see what your transfer rate is when you're downloading.

467.4 kilobits per second on the wireless laptop that picks up the cable from the main computer. That computer is hooked up with Brighthouse Networks (formerly Road Runner).
Tonight hubby installed the Verizon wireless system on another laptop and it was slow as shit but the signal strength here at home wasn't very good. He took it in the car and drove around a bit and the signal got stronger but still not fantastic. I'll take it to work tomorrow and see how it is there. It's amazing, basically it's a little cellphone kind of device that hooks up to the computer.
