  • Jessica's Law...

Has anyone else been paying attention to this? I just don't understand why there are people that are opposed to this law. It makes you wonder what kind of people the non-supporters are.

well I just read the jist of it....sounds to me like politicians doing what the "public" wants them to do. This is a question to anybody, Do you think jail time and rules prevent crimes? I hope no one thinks that these laws are going to stop anything...its just like gun laws. You can criminalize them as much as you want but criminials are still going to have them regarless. the same can be said for drugs. My own beliefs is that just like no one is born a racist I don't believe that the majority of sex offenders are "Born" that way. Everyday I witness the cycle of abuse in my job. It passes from father to son and mother to daughter. Something needs to be done about the root cause. But it isn't something that is going to be fixed in one generation or even two. But people want their laws to feel safer I guess.

I think it will reduce the total amount of sexualy abused children. There are so many repeat offenders out there. If someone gets senteced minimum 25 years for a first offense, that's 25 years of less children that individual can abuse. Also most offenders just finally got caught for the first time. So they have been commited the crime and ruining children's lives for some time.

While I don't think Jessica's Law will prevent the crime, if it is in place the offenders will not be back out on the street quickly repeating the crime. However, unless something is done to change these people while they're doing time for their crime, once they're out, they will still have strong tendancies to repeat their offense.

I know what Stone's saying though about breaking the cycle. It's just like parental child abuse within a family, it is passed down from generation to generation and it's only with education that it can be stopped. My mother and her siblings were abused as children and they in turn abused their kids, most of my cousins have continued the cycle but last week my mom said she was glad that I stopped the cycle in my family. I was shocked because this was the first time in my 39 yrs. that she actually admitted that there was a problem in the family.

Put the law in place and keep the freaks behind bars for a long time. While they are there........CASTRATE THEM! They ruined a life....now ruin theirs! if anybody ever touched my child in the wrong way, they would never make it to jail.
