  • Have you served in the army, navy, air force?

If you have, give me some insight on how the experience was im strongly considering joining one of the three...

Right now i'm attending a community college, i dont know what direction i want to go, i really have no clue what i want to do....i've been stressed as hell over a handful of things the past month or so and I almost feel like i wanna quit everything i'm doing right now and just start from scratch with a clean slate somewhere else...and what better place then one of these three?

***US ARMY AIRBORNE INFANTRY.... My advice would be--Stay in college....... Stressed out--go to gym, take a vacation..... Joining the military is not a stress-free thing to do, its all stress, they stress you to the max, to make sure you dont break..... When it really counts.... Stay in school..... But if you must---Go in Air-Force, they sleep on beds, not in the woods, like Marines, Army and the navy sleeps 20 men in a small little tiny room... Air Force would be my recommendation, what are your interests? :usausausa

Well, I was in the USMC and don't regret a day of it. It saved my life. I noticed that it wasn't listed.

You can start over with or without the military.

one of my good friends did this exact same thing. He had a full ride + making money going to a good university. He used to work out a lot and was doing good. Then all of a sudden he dropped out of school and enlisted in the marines. Right now, he's in Japan at an air base serving. Something happened between him and his dad, I'm not sure of the details but whatever it was, it was enough to make him quit school and go into the military.

If I was to pick one of them I think I would have to pick the Air Force. Seems like that would be the safest bet.

Not at all. They have a shortage of security police, so that's what they're hiring for. My brother was an SP, but he transferred to firefighter, but his wife is an SP as well. I believe she just shipped out to iraq and he'll be going in january when she comes back. They won't be seeing each other for a while. So you'd be shipped to iraq even in the air force. Safest is probably the navy, cause you'd be on a boat most of the time.

I would recommend if you go do it with 4yrs of college behind you. You will move up the ranks faster. Research them all, they have diffent things to offer. I would pick something that translates well into the "real" world when you return such as communications, medical career, etc. vs missle building engineer (i made that up) In war times none are all that safe but Bouncers absolutely correct with Air Force. Just cuz your in the Navy doesnt mean youll stay on a boat (my brothers wife). If you can carry a gun you probably will.

You seem to be in a rut and your trying to run away from your problems/stresses. Im sorry to tell thats life bro. You have to learn and deal with them. Things will get better. If you were a friend I would talk you out of the Military (especially during war times). It appears to me your going for the wrong reasons. Plus you will be most likely be fast tracked to Iraq. I have nothing against the miltary my dad was a Lt./Sargent in the Army, best friend is Cpt. (iraq) and Cusin is a Ranger (afgan).

Yes, the Army did straighten my butt out when i was 17.... Probably saved me from a life of trouble, but seems like the kid is stressed---- which probably means he actually takes school seriously, which means the discipline we needed, he might not..... I still stand too---get edumicated--- after the Army, i went to 7 years of college, hated every minute of it....... :nerdnew:

well i'm right in the middle of a semester right now so i have a half a semester and some christmas break time to chew it over

it does seem kinda like i'm running away from problems and stress and in a way i guess i am....but i'd prefer to call it taking a break while still doing something useful that could in a very small way help alot of people

only person in my immediate family who has served has been my grandfather, he was in the air force back in the early 50's

I was in the marines and I have absolutely no regrets. The only thing that sucks is that when all my friends were graduating from college with BA's, I was just getting started as a freshman. I'm only 27, but still, being in school with a bunch of 18-20 yr. olds can suck (except for checkin out the bitches) especially when all my buddies are getting decent jobs making decent money, and here I am studying for a college prep algebra test.
Think about it man, it 's one of those things that when your doing it you think it sucks, but when you get out you look back and say " that wasn't that bad".
My advice, stay in school, if you the bug is still nipping at you, join after college.
And I'm sure whatever problems you have at home will seem like nothing when your in Iraq with mortars landing 15ft away from you.
