Countdown to Opening Day

Only six more days until deer season opens in GA :D. Bow season started in September but gun season is in full swing starting Saturday. I can't wait. The weather has become almost perfect for an early afternoon outing.

I am waiting, a few hunters have already said they would hook me up with the deer they get. Good free meat.

What do you say to peopel when they tell you hunting deer with a gun isn't a sport?

I don't have much to say to that. It would be similar to me trying to explain to someone why using steroids is o.k. in relationship to plastic surgery. There are just some arguments that can't be won without too much bullshit.

I typically bowhunt which in my opinion is very much a sport. However, the reason I seem to get excited about opening day for gun season is that it means the weather is almost perfect. The trees start changing color and the air is crisp and clean. I also enjoy the fact that the land I hunt on is surrounded by gunmen and they tend to scare all of the deer onto my property so I can get within bow range of more deer etc.

I also tend to associate it with my first few weekends of getaway's with a bunch of friends so that we can catch up on each other's lives. It is a time of comraderie that can't be rivaled in my opinion (despite the fact that all but one of them are strictly gunmen).
