  • Where would you retire to?

Assuming you had enough money for a comfortable retired life, which tropical or subtropical area would you pick to settle in?

One of the Hawaiian islands? USVI? Florida Keys?

The US legal system and 1st world medical facilities are prerequisities, so it would have to be US territory (although the Caymans are probably ok since they would be British).

I really liked the North coast of Maui when I visited there last. Somewhere along the road to Hana, maybe. It is pretty deserted on that side as most of the tourism is on the West and Southwest side of the island. Don't know too much about Kauai though.

I was thinking about building a Japanese style house there, surrounded by lush vegetation. Ideal for my Hindu/Buddhist inspired lifestyle.

Middle of nowhere. I'd just find somewhere in the mountains and the woods where nobody could ever find me and have my groceries air-dropped weekly. Maybe northwoods Minnesota or maybe Colorado somewhere. Sounds good to me now, but I have 40years to that and I'm sure I'll change my mind by then.

Yeah... I thought about Mexico or the South Pacific, but I'm a little nervous about being outside the US... not sure about the health facilities, and moreover having the US constitution covering my six is key in my book....

Maybe the Bahamas or the Caymans...though if it were anywhere in the world, I'd move up the coast here...pretty scenery, free medicare, and back to a small town.

Yeah... I love cold weather but my wife is not too keen... I'd go for upstate Vermont or Maine but I think she'll veto it.

                        I'd have several retirement homes:

                        1. House in Aspen, Colorado
                        2. An entire island in the south pacific
                        3. Penthouse in Manhattan
                        4. Horse ranch in Wyoming
                        5. Beach house in Miami
                        6. Castle in Europe (with butlers, maids and everything)

Yeah, and maybe some other places too!

assuming i had more money then i knew what to do with i would love a beach house and a mountain house

the mountain house i would want something almost like in secret window...just a far off cabin deep in the woods....a place i could be completely isolated from everything..preferrably in the mountains with streams....something extremely peaceful, something you'd dream of.....i'd love to take my girl up there and just be alone and enjoy live with no bothersome distractions

the beach house i'd probably stay at more and i'd like it right on the beach...it'd be completely opposite of mountain house....i'd be in the midst of all the people visiting the beach and it'd obviously be a much more lively atmosphere...i've only gone to the beach on vacation but even tho it's crowded you still feel relaxed, i simply like being there

the only thing i do know is i dont wanna be in the city.....i'd love to have a place now like one of those two where i could just get away

I'm doing well, but not that well...lol...

How's the Caribbean? US VI, for example? Or the Caymans? I have never been there, but the beaches look fabulous with the white sands and everything.
