Not much of an island kind of guy my self. If i had the money there is a place about 1-1/2 hours north of where i live tiny tiny town even smaller than where i live. huge wooded area's not a soul around for miles, but only about an hour and half outa town so you still in touch with real people. I would buy up all the land around me for miles and build me a nice cabin style house off in the woods with a lake side view.

I look at it this way, Im going to be old when I retire, so I want to have a really relaxed place, with not a lot of noise and a lot of acres of land. It can be up in the relaxed mountains, or at a relaxed beach. I would also want it so I could visit my family every now and then too cause I would hope that my family would bring me just as much joy when I am old as the place I live in. (hopefully more)

How's the Caribbean? US VI, for example? Or the Caymans? I have never been there, but the beaches look fabulous with the white sands and everything.
I have been to US VI and its beautiful. British VI at least the ones I have been to were ever nicer. Cayman Islands were my favorite island. I was there in 2004 and it was awsome. However, I have talked to a few people that say the Cayman islands look like shit now due to the hurricane last year.
