  • Saddam Trials

I'm watching this and all the defendents, espeacially Saddam, are be very disruptful to the proceedings. They are not even stating there names for the record. Saddam says he does not believe in the people that appointed the judge.

When the judge repeatadly asked him to state his name, all Saddam will say is that "You are an Iraqi, you know who I am"

He continues to claim this is a false court and he is still the president.

Yes, his lawer straight up said that Saddam's plan is to be disruptive and disrespect the court, since he dosn't believe in it's validacy.

Kind of odd that the guards bringing him in have bullet proof vests on and Saddam doesn't...don't you think?

Maybe that's like a message saying, "someone just kill this bastard cause the justice system won't."

Everyone is scared to death of Saddam. When Iraqi's were asked would they cheer for him if he was put back into power they said they would. Not because of being happy, just out of fear. Iraqi's now are comfortable about talking publicy about anything except Saddam. No one will feel safe or make comment until he is dead. As for the vests, they are more worried about a few Saddam followers that are left taking action to free him, than someone assasinating him.

There are 12 trials for him to go through. Theypicked this one first because they have plenty of evidence against him and it carries the death penalty. Unlike the states, if he gets a death conviction here, the trials will stop there. There is a manditory appeal then if/once that appelat court approves of the convictions, by there laws the death sentence is to be carried out within 30 days. They want to go through the process professionally since this will be a court system that continues ones Saddam is sentenced (assuming he is). But they will not entertain constant delays now that the process has started. The defense asked for a 3 month continuence because they have not had time to prepare. Saddam was constantly firing counsel. I didn't see how long they gave him, but when I last saw something about it, they were specualating they wouldn't be given any more than a month if that.

Saddam Trial Defense Lawyer Found Dead
                        http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,172967,00.html

Why wouldn't they kidnap and kill someone that is prosecuting and not someone that is defending?

I know the guy was involved in defending some other scum. Also, maybe this will be another excuse for why they need to delay the trial longer. :dunno:

If they declare some sort of mistrail or what ever their equivalent is over there then I fear what will happen... I could only imagine how much more of a mess it all could turn out to be
