KANSAS CITY CHIEFS @ MIAMI DOLPHINS -1.5
Kansas City (3-2) at Miami (2-3) @ 7:00 PM EST.
The Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs are hoping the Friday night lights under which they will play in Week 7 might cast a ray of inspiration.
The Fins and Chiefs matchup, which was originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Dolphins Stadium, was moved to Friday evening due to the deteriorating weather conditions in south Florida caused by Hurricane Wilma. Friday's tilt will mark the second regular season Dolphins game in two seasons that has been moved due to the threat of a Hurricane, after the team's 2004 regular season opener against the Titans was moved from Sunday to Saturday due to similar concerns.
Nick Saban's team will enter the contest looking to snap a two-game losing skid, which was extended with a 27-13 loss at Tampa Bay last Sunday. Saban is now 0-3 on the road as an NFL head coach, but has won his only two games at Dolphins Stadium this season. Miami enters Week 7 a half-game back of AFC East co-leaders Buffalo and New England.
Kansas City, meanwhile, will be trying to build on last week's 28-21 win over the Washington Redskins. Dick Vermeil and company broke a two-game losing streak with the win, and kept pace with AFC West leader Denver (5-1) in the process. The Chiefs currently reside in second place in the West.
SERIES HISTORY:
Kansas City has an 11-10 lead in the all-time regular season series with Miami, breaking a deadlock with a 48-30 home victory during the 2002 season. The Chiefs have dropped four straight regular season matchups in Miami since winning there during the 1989 campaign, and were 17-14 losers in south Florida during their last visit there, in 1997.
In addition to their regular season history, the clubs have met three times in the postseason, with Miami claiming a 27-17 home win in a 1994 AFC First-Round Playoff, a 17-16 home triumph in a 1990 AFC First-Round Playoff, and a 27-24 overtime road victory in a 1971 AFC Divisional Playoff.
Vermeil is 2-2 against the Dolphins in his career, including 1-0 since taking over the Chiefs in 2001. Miami's Saban will be meeting both Vermeil and the Chiefs for the first time as a head coach.
OVERALL ANALYSIS:
The shifting of this game from Sunday to Friday probably doesn't sit particularly well with either team, but is a much greater disadvantage to the visiting Chiefs. Kansas City hasn't played well on the road to begin with in 2005, and the circumstances surrounding this one aren't going to help improve their fortunes away from Arrowhead. Look for a more physical Miami team, one that is attempting to halt a losing streak and improve its standing in the AFC East, to come away with the win
