Vaccumable(sp) carpet cleaners?

The carpet downstairs in our apt was replaced before we moved it, but the stairs and the upstairs wasn't. I found some stuff at walmart that kills fleas, ticks, mites, etc. Do you think this stuff is good enough or is there something better? Before we know it our son will be crawling so I want to keep working to make sure it's clean.

I wouldn't use anything with a pesticide. As you walk on it, the pesticide will be carried to other floor areas and when he starts crawling and playing, everything on the floor will be going into his mouth.

If you have to wash the upstairs carpet, rent a machine and use something without chemicals (or buy a machine...with a little one you'll be wanting one around all the time). I hand wash the carpet on my stairs with a little carpet shampoo and a scrubby brush, within a couple of hours it's dry and then I use the hand vac to help fluff the carpet fibers back up.

well they supposadly had it professionally shampoo'd before we moved in. If they did, it was a real shitty job. I will go see how much it costs to rent a shampooer.

you can bomb the house if you have bugs and then just clean from top to bottom and shampoo the carpets at the end.

I don't have bugs, but the previous owners had a pet of some sort. I saw pet hair in the carpet when we moved in. That was 4 months ago, so I would think for the most part anything that was there is gone, but I just want to make sure.

then I would just shampoo the carpets unless you actually see any fleas or such.

They seem to be real pleased with the chemdry guy at work. I dono how much he cost though. It only takes the carpet a few hours too which is a big plus
