I just opened a savings account with emigrantdirect.com yielding 4.0% APR interest....the highest available in the country on a basic savings account. There are no fees, no minimum balances, and no time length that the money needs to stay in the account.
It basically just links to your checking account and you can transfer money back and forth anytime you want.
Traditional banks have alot of overhead and can't offer anything close to this rate. Here is a link to an article by cnn money that has some great things to say about these internet banks.
