Sarah French, Wharton High Student:
"We all knew about it but no one knew if the rumors were true."
Many Wharton High school students say they've heard the rumors for more than a year that former math teacher and girls basketball coach Jaymee Wallace was having an affair with a student. But yesterday, those rumors became closer to reality when Wallace was arrested charged with lewd battery for having a lengthy 18 month sexual relationship with a female student on her basketball team.
Cameron Gauthier, Wharton High:
It was kinda surprising we heard rumors about it last year but we didn't really think about it this year."
In interviews with police the alleged victim says she thinks she and Wallace had oral sex more than 50 times.
A friend of the victim told investigators she walked in on Wallace and the alleged victim naked in Wallace's bedroom. a different friend claims she had seen the two holding hands and kissing. That same student also says once police were involved Wallace called her crying and asked the student to lie for her.
But Wallace's attorney says his client is completely innocent and all the allegations are totally unfounded...Nothing more than a teenage high school soap-opera.
Joe Bodiford, Wallace's Attorney:
"We don't know what it was if it was a product of over active hormone driven imaginations whether it was retaliatory for one being perceived to have been picked on or picked over another for the basketball team we're not sure."
The authorities don't see it that way at all. The alleged victim took a polygraph and was determined by police to be telling the truth about the relationship.
