The vet told us the other day that he attended a confereance in New Mexico, along with other Vets and Prediatricians. The reason for them coming together was to educate them on the growing problems of children getting different things from pets.
He went on to explain us that there were thousands of cases of children become very ill, having neurological problems, generaly illness and even mental retardation. They soon found out that the cause was from worms, from the pets passed on to the children.
This is scary, because I know of alot of people who do not take their pets to the Vet, give them worm and heart meds and they know nothing about the dangers of not doing so. We asked why there was no public awareness of the problem and he wasn't able to give us an answer, other than, who is going to do it?
Just thought I would share that info, as alot of us are younger and have small children. Apparently traces of the worms have been found in adults too, but their bodies generally fight it off and they are less likely to have any problems.
