I've never found footwear to be a big deal. I just wear whatever shoes I have. Your footwear isn't going to be the deciding factor when you're squatting 500lbs. Your technique will.

earlyer when i read this tread i was thinkin the samething. but im sure these guys with the special support shoes squat alot more and different than i do. i never go over 405lbs and i always use the smith and put my feet out alot farther than a normal stance. if i did normal squats anything over 225 would kill my lower back.

You run gear, and you can't squat over 225 pounds? What are your stats?

Sounds like a major form problem or if you have that bad of a back you should be finding any alternative to a squat.

ya i have had a bad lower back for a long time. my alternative is using the smith and puttin my feet out in front of me, witch works ok my back still hurts but nuttin like regular squats. if my back hurts with in the week ill just do extra leg presses and skip squats.

i squat and pull in chuck's; never let me down. i like the flat bottom and plus they make you look hardcore ;) i wore mine around the expo at the arnold and got more compliments on them than i've ever had on a pair of shoes before.

Otomix Hi-Tops are my favorite shoes for any lifting, but they suck on the treadmill.

Just regular crosstrainers on most days, but I like squatting in my big-ass steel toe work boots.
