  • Why I love it

I want to share some of the thoughts in my head as to why I love the gym. To me there is a certain spiritual aspect when there. It is weight, gravity and my personal will that drives the 2 together to shape my body. It is that connection of mind and body that brings forth the spiritual feel to me.

I do not lift to attract woman. I do not lift for personal ego gains from piers. I lift because it is the greatest gift I can give myself. I am the only person who can give that gift. The feeling I get is euphoric and spills over into my everyday life. It is my center which gives me strength in everything I do.

It keeps me humble. The balance that must be achieved to be a complete bodybuilder never ends and is always a challenge. In the video Pumping Iron Arnold stated that he was to a point that if he adds a 1/2” to one area, he would have to do that for his entire body. That is balance. In order to do this you must always be cognitive of your body and goals, because a well balance body is work. That acute awareness and drive keeps me humble because I am always pushing and searching to achieve that.

My goal is simple. Build a truly impressive body that can be kept for a lifetime. I am a gym rat for life and will never quit. It is my passion.

truer words have never been spoken... i almost see muscles as just a positive side-effect to this lifestyle. i think what it does for your mind/sanity/self-confidence/self-assurance/determination/sense of self worth/self respect/respect for others/ etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc, is the #1 benefit

Interesting post. I never really attempt to put into words my exact feelings, but I enjoyed reading your post. I need to try to formulate something to explain why I do what I do to all the people that don't understand my lifestyle. I totally get the "It keeps me humble. The balance that must be achieved to be a complete bodybuilder never ends and is always a challenge." That's what keeps me going and why it's a never-ending pursuit, which people don't understand. Most people think once you're in shape and once you're "muscular", what's the point in continuing. I'm definitely gonna have to formulate a similar thesis for my life though.

It took a little time to put together my thoughts without going on and on. After I did it was great to see the thoughts come to life in print. I look forward to reading it when you do.
