I was watching Nighline and they did a story on Riverside school for the deaf. here is a brief synopsis(sp) of it
"Co-anchor Martin Bashir traveled to Southern California to report on the Riverside Cubs, the California School for the Deaf, Riverside's football squad and its best season in its 52-year history. The only deaf team in their league, the Cubs are looking to complete the season undefeated. Mr. Bashir talks to the players, their coach and families about the impact their success is having on their community."
To go into a little more detail, the school has been constantly loosing until this coach came in a turned the program around. They were having trouble because they can't hear the wistle and the opposing teams QB would just stop like a whistle was blown. Riverside would stop and then the QB would throw a TD. The coach got them to just start staying focused on the football until a ref came in the middle of the play waving there arms. I guess the QB's then had to learn and throw the ball down if a whislte blew lol. The team went undefeated and won the championship this year. Other teams got so desperate that they hired there own interpratures to read the plays the coach was calling in. Though the team couldn't hear the crowd cheer for them, the band would beat the bass drums hard, so they could feel the vibrations.
