i got my facts mixed up- what i meant to say was that one out of every 6 people SENTENCED to death have turned out to be innocent, meaning usually theyre not actually executed, but there definately have been innocent executions in the past. another interesting point is that the truly morbid fucks who commit completely heinous crimes for pleasure are often so obsessed with death, they look forward to their execution. i have actually read cases where the criminal laughed through their sentence and said they looked forward to execution and wanted no delays.Originally posted by decadecadecaI call bullshit on that little statistic. Please post any credible link to verify that claim.

I agree - but with Dahmer there was no way of saying he didn't do it...Originally posted by FitnessBratThis is why peoples opinion on the death penalty sways....
We already have different counts of murder (1st degree, 2nd degree, etc). We can't say "ok, you killed your wife, you get to live", "you killed a child, you get the chair" or "you raped and killed two, so you get thrown in the pit" There has so be some standards.
"you killed your wife" - he/she COULD be innocent
"you killed a child" - he/she COULD be innocent
"you raped and killed two" - he/she COULD be innocent
"you killed, mutilated and then ate 20 people and we found all of this in your home and you had blood on your hands and a BBQ bib on with some poor souls blood all over it when you answered the door"
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
YOU GET THE CHAIR BRO...
(or in Njjuicer's case - you get eaten alive etc)

I don't oppose the death, but I don't fully support either. I think there are some people who commit the most haneus crimes, who don't even blink when they commit them, they don't deserve the breath of life. But there are people who commit crimes, like others have said, out of rage or passion, that aren't it their right state of mind who deserve to sit the rest of their mortal lives contemplating what they'd done.

was listening to stats the other day on this....since the re-establishment of the DP....there have been around 600,000 first degree murders....there has only been 1000 executions....but my main contention with the death penalty is the cost....I hate paying taxes as it is....each criminal defendant that goes through the process of the DP costs 10's of MILLONS of dollars....too much....yeah prisons are expensive too but not in lifetime will you pay that much to house a prisoner. I think manual labor is a good alternative for prisoners...they will get back breaking work done for society which will naturally lower their life span and not break the bank at the same time.
