I think my eyes are going bad. In the past couple months I have started to need to squint at stuff that is far away. I have never been to an eye doctor before. Would I need to see an optometrist or an opthamologist, or what?

it could very well be from weight lifting. when you exert lots of pressure, your eye pressure skyrockets, which over time can lead to bad vision. this can also happen to trumpet players, constructions workers or people who are constipated alot lol... anything that leads to you exerting lots of pressure

I would just go to a walmart or something and get a eye exam or some where else that does eye exams where you live. Then if there is a problem then you will know where to go from there bro. Good luck bro and keep us posted!Originally posted by FitnessBratYou just need a basic eye exam, an optometrist is just fine for that.

Can you post studies to back this up? I have that problem all the time during squats, deadlifts and leg presses (I see stars during my entire rest period). I would like to see what the science behind this says...Originally posted by Jordanit could very well be from weight lifting. when you exert lots of pressure, your eye pressure skyrockets, which over time can lead to bad vision. this can also happen to trumpet players, constructions workers or people who are constipated alot lol... anything that leads to you exerting lots of pressure

i dont have any studies, but its definately true... i had a bad eye injury a few years ago and learned all about eyes. your eye has a constant pressure to it (how firm it is). there is a healthy range you should maintain. when ever you do something physically strenuous (anything that makes you go RRrrrrr!) your eye pressure goes way up for that period of time. when i had my injury, i couldnt do anything that would raise pressure at all... no lifting, activity, sudden movements, or even looking down. the doctor even told me that when i poop, i have to just relax and let gravity do its thing. this isnt some sort of theory or anything, it's actually medical science. when ever i take time off of lifting, then get back into it, my eyesite gets horrible for a few months then gradually goes back to normal. as far as i know, there really isnt much you can do to prevent this, besides maybe going easy on the leg press. im sure if you look up eye pressure, you can find lots of info.

those stars are whats known as 'floaters'. they are actually little things floating around in your eyes... they are always there but you normally cant see them. sometimes when you fall over or get hit in the head, they get stirred up kinda like one of those glass christmas scenes with the fake snow, and thats when you notice them. heavy weight training causes the same thing.

It's more or less a matter of just seeing really bright lights and not being able to see shit. It takes almost a minute or so before I can make things out (mainly shapes etc) and after a few minutes I can start to focus but by then it's time for another set. I try not to let it happen too often but sometimes when I'm really pushing myself I'm not too worried about what I can or cannot see as long as my muscles are benefiting.Originally posted by ShibbyThese stars... I'll probably look into this further to make sure that I'm not going to be scarred for life. However, I imagine that ANYONE who really pushes themselves on major compound movements experiences the same thing, and probably as often as I do - but I don't see a ton of blind people with huge muscles walking all throughout gyms worldwide.
