So my wife and son are in Memphis about to board there international flight. They have already flown from an airport in western Arkansas to there. She is now notified that my son (3months old) needs a ticket. So we must buy a ticket for him or she will have to wait until tommorrow and NW airlines will send her back home for free. There is something about when flying international that every passanger must be accounted for no matter what age. So to do that my son needs a ticket. Somebody really screwed up here. What also is pissing me off is that the flight is full so NW airlines is making extra money off the flight for no reason other than to show my wife has an infant sitting in her lap.

That is bullshit. Why does a 3 month old kid need a ticket? There is no extra cost to teh airline, and he isnt taking a seat. I can understand with a 2 year old or something, but this is stupid.
I guess they are trying to get money however they can, or it is the latest ploy to stop terrorism.

Well if they need some sort of paper trail that he is on the flight, why couldn't the airline just mark him down or give him a "ticket". The flight is full, but they have the ability to charge $273 to get him on at the last minute. I sent her with extra money, but if she came back home instead, she would have had to get a cab to a hotel and back for a flight in the morning, which no one would pay for either. It took everything I had not to get so angry I wouldn't make any sense.

So an update. Travelocity called me and they said it shouldn't have been that expensive. It's usually either 10% the cost of a full ticket or just the taxes. That usually when people don't see anything asking how they get a ticket for there infant, they usually call. I told him that lap infants have always traveled for free so why would I have called. We talked for a minute more and he agreed to reimberss half. I also sent a email to NW airlines so we will see what they say. If I get at least the same offer I will be very pleased.

I'd have demanded the seat...i mean you paid for it, fuck it, let your Fiance have some extra room and not have to sit next to somebody.
I tend to think that the airlines are making some extra $ from paranoia. It's really too bad, and if anyone questions it, they claim it's safety related or some such bull. Sorry to hear it, especially at this time of year.

I don't want to put words in Shibby's mouth but I'm sure it would have been different if he had been present...Originally posted by mindstarI'd have demanded the seat...i mean you paid for it, fuck it, let your Fiance have some extra room and not have to sit next to somebody.

Fair enough...I can only imagine how stressful it must have been for everyone involved. It's just that shit like that always pisses me off, especially when companies know they have you over a barrel.
