SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI GOLDEN EAGLES -15.5 -107 @ ARKANSAS STATE INDIANS
    SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI (6-5, 5-3 C-USA) vs. ARKANSAS STATE (6-5, 5-2 S.BELT) @ 8:00 PM EST. ESPN

GAME NOTES: For the second straight year, the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles will take part in the New Orleans Bowl when they clash with the Arkansas State Indians this Tuesday night in Lafayette, Louisiana. This will be the 16th bowl appearance for Southern Mississippi, which has a 6-9 mark in its previous 15 bowl contests. The Golden Eagles are the only team in Conference-USA to compete in four straight bowl games. Last season, the Golden Eagles posted an impressive 31-10 victory over the North Texas Mean Green for their first bowl victory since 2000. This season USM opened the season with a 30-21 setback to Alabama, but the team rebounded in a huge way, winning four of its next five contests, with three of those victories coming in C-USA action. Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles they could not sustain their high level of play, dropping three of their next four matchups, with all three setbacks coming by less than five points. USM was able to put a stop to the late season collapse by soundly defeating Tulane in the regular season finale, 26-7. As for the Indians, they are not as seasoned as USM in postseason play. As a matter of fact, this is ASU's first ever bowl appearance. Coming off a meager 3-8 season in 2004, the Indians were pegged for another lackluster effort this time around, but ASU prove many critics wrong by posting a 6-5 overall record along with an impressive 5-2 ledger inside Sun Belt Conference action. The Indians opened the season with three losses in their first five games, but the team regrouped and closed out the year winning four of its last six, which included a 31-24 come from behind victory over North Texas to close out the regular season. This will be the first meeting between Southern Mississippi and Arkansas State in 25 years. The last time these two schools met on the gridiron was back in 1980 when the Golden Eagles posted a dominating 35-0 win over the Indians. Overall Southern Mississippi has won six of the eight contests against ASU.

    Prediction:
    Southern Miss. 34
    Arkansas St. 14

    31-19

UL-Lafayette would have been a much better fit in this game.....They had won 5 straight and actually allowed ASU to get into that bowl game by putting the conference in a 3 way tie after beating the #1 team in conference 50 something to 20 something in the season finale.....
