  • EMT-B

Just passed my EMT-B course, I'm pretty proud of myself, now its on to firefighter 2. I really enjoyed that class, even if you dont plan on working as an EMTB the knowlegde from the class is pretty useful to have especially if you have kids. Very cool class and its a National certifcation so I wont have to retake it if I move out of state. Just thought I'd share.

I can tell you though, if you don't ever apply these skills on a regular basis, the class is useless, IMO. I have worked prehospital for 5 years now knowing what I know now and the experience I have, I was useless as a noobie simply because you really don't know how to actually apply anything.

If you can, try to ride along for about 6 months on an ambulance and get some calls under your belt. It will make a hell of a difference.

Congrats man, it's a long class and i was happy to be finished when i did. good job in sticking through it! some areas won't accept the national cert though, it depends on the medical director of whatever particular area you're working in, though it's rare.

cool thanks guys, I plan on going on to paramedic once I get on a fire dept. I had to do 24 hours in the ER so it put it in perspective how much I really dont know, but its a good starting point anyway
