  • Body Fat realization

I use calipers to measure bodyfat and recently determined that BF is 12% .

I am training with a friend who has a BF scale that has him at 9% (very believable). I step on the damn thing it comes up with 17%.
    Talk about pissed.

I know that I should follow own advice and use the mirror as guide and don't get caught up in weight or BF, but damn 17%.

What does his bf % measure with your calipers?

I have not measured him with my calipers.
I am just using this as more modivation to improve my bodyfat %.

The truth is probably somewhere between the 12% and the 17%.

I really am just bitching in general.

Those tanita scales aren't that great. It could be more or less. The hydration of your body and if you have exercised recently all can affect the read out.

The Tanita scales depend on way too many factors. My scale is set up for two different settings--one said I was 16% this morning and the other said 7%. I have fairly well-defined abs--can see a 6-pack clearly after an ab workout, so there's no way I'm 16%.

2 weeks before my last show I was 11% according to my calipers, the egg had me at 4% the day before my show. I was skin and muscle, can't imagine being leaner...

is that the scale with the electronic pads on them? if so thoes are the stupidest things ever. i had my BF mesured from a pro with calipers(i know there is still room for error) it came out 9% the next day i was at the store where i buy my weights and tryed one of thoes scales and it told me i was 21% thats bullshit. if you can see abs you are most likely under or around 10%

I've never seen a scale measure bf% accurately. Callipers can be tricky but if you're following the directions, getting accurate pinches, they will be a better indicator.

my br got as low as 3.96% with calipers, a week from my last show. The lowest I've ever been on a scale is 6.7 or 6.8% or something, and I KNOW I wasn't fatter then, so...who knows

I've read that the only thing they're really accurate for is measuring changes in BF over time, but you'd have to hold too many things constant, like how much food is in you, how well hydrated you are...stuff like that
