Man Hits Teacher's Aide After Daughter's Claims

TAMPA, Fla. — A father punched a teacher's aide in the face in front of a class after his teenage daughter said the man inappropriately touched her.

"I'm not real proud of what I did," Dave F. Swafford, 42, said Wednesday. "You have to protect your children, and my daughter does not lie to me."


Swafford was charged with felony battery on a school employee after he hit the 35-year-old aide Tuesday at Lakewood Ranch High in Bradenton, Fla., authorities said.

A Tampa radio station named him "Father of the Year," offering Swafford and his family Daytona 500 race tickets.

The school placed the aide on paid leave Tuesday because of the allegation, Manatee County School District spokeswoman Margi Nanney said. The sheriff's office was investigating.

Swafford said he came to school to meet with officials about his 15-year-old daughter's allegations. When he saw that the aide was not at the meeting, Swafford asked his daughter to take him to the man.

They argued and "I lost control," Swafford said. Swafford spent about 10 hours in jail before he was released on bail.

I actually got suspended in 10th grade for smacking a teachers aide in the face threw a news paper. lol. This jerk off used to talk shit all the time. He was like 22 years old and thought he was the coolest guy in town. Anyway, one day he was reading the news paper and talking shit to me at the same time. I ment to just hit the paper but I ended up smacking him in the face also. lol. 10 day suspension only because he was actually cool about it and said that I was just playing around and didnt mean it. :P We actually got along better after that.

If he did touch her innapropriately, then he deserved it, but any parent who thinks their child never lies to them, well, need I say more? Both my step sisters have done alot of lying in their time, even made a claim my step father was beating her to get attention at home.

the worse thing you could do as a father is assume your daughter was lying too you. I not saying he handled it the best way. I think it should have been a misdemeanor at most not a felony. Its not like he fucked him up bad knocking his teeth out or smash his skull on the ground like i would have lol. He just gave him a little smack :slap:

i dunno, personally if i had any sense that someone had touched my daughter inappropriately, i wouldn't have just punched them. and i know sexual predators are sneaky ass-fucks...
but there are too many variables, and while the father is being just as protectice as he SHOULD be, perhaps he could also set a better example. the fucker is at least on administrative leave and they take that shit seriously. i'm just glad someone will get to the bottom of this now, which they might not have had he not be knocked the fuck out. catch-22 if i've ever heard of one...
