  • Making fun of baby names

As we just had a baby boy 5 weeks ago, the thought of baby names has been fresh in my mind. I had a discussion with a girl at a local Tropical smoothie cafe who is pregnant and she does not want a name that can easily be made fun of. First I told her that it did not matter, kids will find something to make fun of, but then she told me the name she liked.

She said" I like the name Holden, and I think it is a good name that I can not think of anything bad to go with it"

I said" How about Holden my balls in your mouth". She got this look on her face, like oh shit!

I felt kinda bad for bursting her bubble, but it was easy pickins.

Wonder what the baby's last name will be? That could make or break the first name too. Like Holden Cox would not go over very well.

We had a guy at our high school with the name of Mike Hunt. Poor kid got picked on so bad. Why would you do that to your son?? It is a funny ass name!!

I liked the name Aidan for a boy....

My wonderful husband said "You mean like Aidan & Abettin'?"

I also liked the name Tanner for a boy...

He again says "Tanner than me?"

That was a nice thing about us going with a Polish name.

I'm not a fan of all these semi-British, pseudo-posh, quasi-gay names like Holden, Tanner, or Aidan.

Very true, when picking our son's name my wife would tell me how to pronounce it, then I would let her know how badly it could get screwed up or how it's read in english. Then we went from there. He's probably going to hear Polish and eourpean jokes growing up, we tried not to make his name an easy target and went with something we liked.

That's kind of what we are hoping. He has his full name and than his nickname that he goes by. His full name is Nikodem (knee-co-dem) and goes by Niko.

Boy I hope no one here named their children any of these names....I'm sure they'd love to hear that Tanner is quasi-gay.

I gotta agree with glowalla, Tanner sounds pretty fruity to me.
