Francesco Columbu, a weightlifting partner of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger during his days as a champion bodybuilder, was named Friday to the state's Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
Columbu, 64, is a two-time Mr. Olympia and a former Mr. Universe who used to train with Schwarzenegger in the 1970s.
He has been a chiropractor since 1977 and owns a care center in Los Angeles. According to published reports, Columbu stopped lifting in 1981 but still plays tennis on the weekends with the governor. Like Schwarzenegger, he is a Republican.
The position includes a $100 per diem compensation and does not require Senate confirmation.
