  • Knee pain's back

OK, I'm dying again... I can hardly walk up the steps... it's gotten sooo bad. I was at the dr again today and I'm going to go to PT. Dr. says that it's because my hamstrings are so strong compared to my quads... which he's right... they are so disproportionate... I'm also not running anymore... which after the last time they were hurting, I went right back to running and now I'm paying the consequences...

Anyone on here have bad knee pain and now it's gone? does it never go away?

I've been fortunate with my knees...but one of my teammates once had a pulled hamstring that didn't get better all season...when she went back home over the summer, her doc said her quad was stronger than her hamstring or something like that, and that's what caused the trouble...she saw a PT and everything and it got better

Sounds like you need to redress that ham/quad balance, lots of leg extensions to strengthen the knee ligament and the front quads should do it, high reps.

I used to have a ton of knee pain when I had chicken legs! When I started strengthening my quads, a lot of the pain went away. It is a common problem with runners and I know many runners that use wall/ball squats and similar exercises to strengthen their quads and have had great results. Take care of those knees--you only get one pair and the replacement options are terrible!

--oh yeah, and don't forget to take glucosamine sulfate and perhaps chondroitin, as well as fish oils to help your joints. I'd read up on chondroitin because a conference I went to lately had significant amounts of research showing that the chondroitin molecules are too large to be absorbed and therefore are useless--and chondroitin is what makes the stuff so expensive.

I broke both my legs a few years ago so I know what you mean by knee pain; reconstructive surgery, rods in my femurs, screws through my joints, pins that developed a staph infection and the list continues :D...

As for you problem, seek therapy and listen to them. I am working towards a Master's in Physical Therapy so I would encourage you to hunt me down when I get finished :D....

thanks everyone... I've been taking the anti-inflammatory pills he prescribed and that takes away about 90% of the pain. I am getting side effects though, my chest is tight... I feel like asmatic. Once I stop taking them though, it goes away in a couple days. Once my knees stop hurting then I'll stop taking these pills, but no more running that's what I did last time and now I am right back where I started.
