  • Ouch! $15 for a copy of a car key

So the local places can't make a copy of my car key that works. It seems that the blanks they have aren't thick enough. The key works the door and the ignition. It dosn't have a chip and it's not electronic. Just a piece of metal. So I went to the chevy dealership and they would have to order it. So the key would be $15 plus tax and I'm sure they will charge a few dollars for labor. Luckly I'm leaving for Austin in the morning. I hope that a Home Depot or the likes will have a blank that works.

Anything from a dealer is way too expensive. I'm sure something in Austin will have a blank, as long as the car isn't too old. Have fun in Austin--it's a pretty cool for a small city.

Is it for your truck that you posted a picture of a long time ago? If so, any major retailer like Walmart, Sears or Home Depot will have it for just a few bucks...

My car key cost $150. It's got a chip in the key, or something like that, way too much money though.

My mother misplaced the key to her Caddy and it cost about that to get a new one. Glad I have a simple Honda. LOL

i have a honda too, but mine has an embedded chip (other places can make copies but it won't start the car), AND the alarm keypad controls on it... yeah, $75 bucks a pop is a bit much, and i sure as hell won't be losing it anytime soon!

I just got a second key for my Audi yesterday. I don't know how much it costed(payed by dealer) but I am sure it was at least $150. And it took the mechanic about 10 mins to program it with the laptop.

Oh by the way sorry guys I went and bought a new car without asking you guys.

I'm about done with Honda's. I've lease an Accord for 9 yrs in a row. This one is my third one and the lease is up in a couple of months. Good cars but I'm just bored with them. I want a convertible for the winter months here and I need something big enough for 4 people. My daughter wanted me to get a Mustang but that's just asking for a ticket around here, I may go with...don't laugh...the PT Cruiser. OK, you can laugh, I do! My daughter saw one with some custom stuff including a funky paint job, she can help me design it since she'll wind up with it when she goes to college in 4 more yrs.
