So my lap top is having trouble knowing to turn the screen all the way on. I will open it and I see it light up, but very dark. Almost like there is a heavy window tinting on the screen. I will mess with this are where a ribbon looks to run from the base to the monitor. It's random how long it can take, I'm guessing I just have to move it right to hit a switch or something, but it seems to be getting more diffuclt to find that sweet spot. Can something like this be repaired and if so around how much would it cost?

Try removing the ribbon from the system board and then reinserting it. This would be the first thing I would try. If the LCD is bad then you are looking at spending some cash and would be cheaper just to purchase a new laptop.Comment

Sounds like the screen may be going out. How old is it? If it is not too old you might be able to bring it back and at least get it looked at to see what is wrong.Comment

It's about 6 years old. I just need this thing to last for another few months or so.Comment

I think you should be able to get another few months. If worse comes to worse and it is just the monitor, you could always just connect it to a regular monitor you would use for a desktop.Comment
