Here is a little breakdown of what I think about each horse. Will post my plays on Saturday morning.
Jazil and Steppenwolfer are the closers. The inside posts don't concern me because these horses will be running late. I prefer Steppenwolfer over Jazil because of a slightly better post and somewhat more consistant.
Keyed Entry: Can he go the 1 1/4 with these? I think he'll weaken after a fast pace.
Sinister Minister: Benefits from having another Baffert horse next to him out of the gate. Last was amazing but look for a bounce here. A pace victim.
Point Determined: Pace stalker that seems to be getting better. Will benefit from stablemate's pace.
Showing Up: Too green here to play. Keep an eye on him. If he handles to Derby crowd well, look for him in the Preakness.
Bob & John: Solid and consistent. The distance looks like it suits this horse well.
Barbaro: Fairly lightly raced coming in. Undefeated. Wins have been solid. Can he hang with lightning splits?
Sharp Humor: 1 1/4 seems too far. Maybe better suited to 7 or 8 furlongs.
A.P. Warrior: Woke up under Shirreffs' training. Faded in last race which was not particularly fast paced but fits well with these. Stalker.
Sweetnorthernsaint: The longer the race, the better. Loves to be out front. Can he stalk? Gotham race concerns me.
Private Vow: Not here.
Bluegrass Cat: Last looks like a throwout but outside post doesn't help. Pace victim.
Deputy Glitters: A cut below these. Later.
Seaside Retreat: Also ran.
Cause to Believe: I have cause to believe this horse is in too deep here.
Lawyer Ron: Never ran a G1 race. A question of class? Fits with these but outside post and pace says off the board. Being next to Brother Derek racing to the first turn for position is too much for both horses.
Brother Derek: Classy and steady. Would like a smaller field with a better post. Having Lawyer Ron inside of him doesn't help. Look for this horse in the Preakness at good odds.
Storm Treasure: The Blue Grass was his best effort. Will regress to old form and maybe pass tired ones late.
Flashy Bull: Racing luck has eluded this horse. Good trainer and good pedigree. Look for improvement but post is too much to overcome here. I'll look for him in the Belmont.
