    WTF???

    http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/10/gra....ap/index.html

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (AP) -- Twelve boys in the first and second grade at a St. Louis elementary school are accused of sexually assaulting a second-grade girl during recess, authorities said Tuesday.

One teacher who was supposed to be supervising the recess has been fired, and another suspended with pay, school superintendent Creg Williams said.

Ten of the boys, ages 6 to 8, were suspended for the rest of the school year, and the other two received five-day, in-school suspensions.

    No names were released.

The girl, who is 8, was unharmed physically but will not return for the rest of the school year. "We don't know what type of emotional scars it will have on the young lady," Williams said.

The incident happened Friday at Columbia Accelerated Community Educational Center, a school with 400 students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade on the city's north side.

During the recess shortly after lunch, a student alerted a teacher when he saw several boys huddled around the girl who was on the ground.

Police turned the investigation over to juvenile authorities. A court official said the boys could face misdemeanor counts of sexual misconduct and assault.

I'm not saying these kids didnt do anything wrong here but I dont see why they put this shit in the paper with no real info. Maybe, just maybe, everyones over reacting a little. I know when I was in elementary school we used to play with the girls in the same way we did boys for the most part. On the other hand they could have been doing something very wrong and need to be taught that it was wrong. How is kicking them out of school and taking them away from the place that they learn social skills going to help that? Also, whether what they were doing was really that bad ot not, youre only making it worse for this girl by making such a big deal about it. Ever have a little kid learning to walk land on their butt? If you act like its no big deal, sso do they. If you freak, they start to cry. I think they same thing may partially apply to situations like this. Youre just making it worse when you overreact to the situation.

Disclaimer: None of us know exactly what went on so I dont really want to argue about what they could or could not have been doing. If we had better information I might change my perspective but part of what pisses me off is the media only gives us enough to be in shock. Not enough to form an educated opinion.

Click on the CNN link and watch the video! A bunch of boys touching one little girl is so wrong! If the one little kid that reported it knew it was wrong, why don't you? Ther is a big damn difference between a toddler falling on their own ass and an 8 year old grabbing a little girls ass! WTF is wrong with you?

I watched the video and there is nothing in it that proves anything. Where does it talk about this little girls ass being touched? Where does it talk at all about exactly what happened? I didnt hear anything. I'm not saying that the boys werent doing anything wrong, I dont know that and you dont either. What I'm saying is that the media blows this stuff up to get a story without really getting any details.

The thing wrong with me is I am skeptical about everything I read or hear, especially then its from CNN or FOX or any other company out to make a profit by selling a story. I'm not saying sexual harassment or touching is OK but this incident may not be as atrocious as you seem to believe. Why dont you sit down and think about it for a minute before you fire off at me.

It was either the principal or superintendent that said they were touching her, not the media. Whether it was her ass or her arms...that many of them doing it is wrong! I guess you are one of those guys that believe even though you only had your hands wrapped around your girls neck, you still didn't hit her so you did nothing wrong. :hmmm:

              Whoa, easy....

I completely understand what rock is saying. The media is so good at writing things to interpreted in different ways.
I don't think kicking kids out of school is necessarily right either. If something indeed was being done, they need to get to the reasons why a 6 or 8 year old boy would do such things. They need counseling more than punishment at that age.

These are exactly the points I was trying to make. I'm not trying to argue or piss people off and I'm definitely not saying that a bunch of boys forcibly touching a girl is OK. Bad, I totally see what youre saying about what they are saying happened but it seems to me like there has to be more to it than that. My question was, did it really happen the way and with the magnitude that they are portraying on the news? I dont like one-sided information. With more info, maybe they can find out why the boys were doing it and punish/teach them about what they were doing wrong as opposed to sending them home.

I dont mind at all that you have a different opinion but dont attack me personally because you disagree.

:hmmm: I see your point. My apologies. I am very protective of kids regardless of the situation, and get heated up easily...as you can see. Again I am sorry.

No problems at all, its a hard topic not to be emotional about. I just like to try to see things from the other point of view and not just rely on one thing. Thats why bulletin boards like this are so cool, everybody can put in their input and it helps you see where everybody is coming from. That and the fact that I'm in law school and I tend to try to poke holes in anything I hear.

I have to admit, sometimes I have some odd views on things and many times I cant or dont fully explain what I am thinking. Congrats on the marriage, I saw the other post, I'm gonna have to take the plunge in the next couple of years too.

I don't care for lawyers that much, but your cool. Please just don't ever defend those that you actually think are guilty. And thanks BTW.

I actually work in an office now where we do family law, personal injury and also criminal defense. I felt the same way you do about the criminals but you learn to look at things a little differently. I still dont know if I will end up doing any criminal work when I finish school but I definitely see things a little differently these days. A large percentage of the time it isnt, are they guilty(because they are), its the fact that the defendant needs someone who is knowledgeable enough to communicate with the rest of the system in order to work out a compromise that satisfies everyone. Generally, people dont "get out of it", you only hear about the ones that do because they are the rare ones that are interesting to hear about. My experiences are probably skewed a little though as I havent been doing it too long and none of our clients have done anything that high up on the F'ed up scale.
