  • Pulled a muscle I believe

I am putting this here so that more people will see it. Move it to the training forum after a couple of hours if needed.

I think I just pulled a muscle on chest day. I can't turn my head to far to the left without it hurting. Once I felt it I quit my workout, I figured that it would be stupid to continue, but I feel like an ass for not finishing my chest. Feel like I cheated. Should I ice it or heat it? If it still kinda hurts tomorrow should I attempt doing back? I can't stand to miss days in the gym.

Heat for tight muscles, Ice for swelling. You want heat.

I've done this too in the past...everyone warms up their rotator cuffs, shoulders, pecs, tris ect. so religiously on chest day...but so many people neglect their neck and traps. Whenever you strain any upper body muscles, the neck and traps are gonna contract to keep you from becoming a 'bobble-head' when exerting a lot of effort. This can be avoided in the future by just sitting on the end of the bench and letting your head hang to each side for 30-60 seconds; the weight of your dome will be sufficient to give the neck a good stretch. Then, place your arm right across your chest and use the hand on the opposite arm to pull your elbow in tighter...this will give the trap a little stretch. Since I started doing these...no more neck kinks. Definately hit it with heat and work out tomorrow....just force it to stretch today after heating...but gently.

Thanks guys. Good idea Hitman. I will try that next week. Bout to put some heat on it and watch some tv, I feel asleep earlier. It is dark and rainy here so it is great to sleep in.
